So guys with a tappet adjusment looming and doing it myself (no trust in clock watchin dealer mechanics), would it be alround easier to take out rad and lower engine for easier access. Just a thought as im gonna be stripping half the bike to bits anyway.  Any thoughts from o wise ones 🤔🤔🤔

From what I have read ,they rarely need doing , folk on here have done very high miles and not Had them done , it's just away for main dealers to charge a lot of money for something that does not need any adjustment , if it's running fine and no starting or noise probs , then leave alone , if it's a bike that is known for needing them done then yes do it , ,,,plus we are tight with money oop north ,  :biker3:

I had some shims replaced on my old bike at 24000 miles. They showed me old ones  and bike stripped down.

Ye the problem is unlike normal tappets that just get louder as they wear our bikes dont they get tighter not looser n that ends up damaging the engine so they must be looked atfor peace of mind if nothing else.  :biker3:

Yeah they get  tighter because the valves hamming on the valve seats over time and especially if you rev the tits out  of the engine all the time  closes up the clearances. Thats why some folk dont have to change the shims because they ride at lower revs.

To be honest mine rarely see more than five or six thousand revs. I dont really feel the need to cane the crap out of it. For me lower end torque is more use to me. Thats what i loved about my honda cb 1300. So much much bottom end torque really felt punchy to me. Although as i said before an r1 went passed me on his back wheel on the a12 showing me how punchy it wasnt.    hmmmm not funny the flash toad. O well 😃

Hi Guys,

I'm a ZZR1400 owner. Not sure if there's any similarities between the ZZR14 & GTR but there's some excellent posts with pics on the forum showing valve adjustment. Could be of help. I have a 2012 Gen 2 model with 38k. Valves were adjusted at 24.5k by our resident expert. Some clearances were at the tight end.
