Excuse the rant but FFS!!!! What is it with arsehole car drivers?
Sat on the M6 this afternoon with SWMBO on the back. Approach a junction, traffic coming into the motorway so I move to lane 2. How I'm here after what follows I have no idea.  Young muppet/dick/knob/winker comes from the on-slip and straight into lane 2 without even looking, with traffic passing me in lane 3. I'm telling SWMBO in the headset that this guy can foxtrot Oscar as the brakes are on bloody hard, the horn is on, SWMBO and me lie in cafe racer fashion over the tank and we manage to keep it the right way up.  Anyhooooo as we pass this idiot in lane 3 and he receives my gesture of comment on his lack of observation the little winker and his mates are just pissing themselves laughing.  WTF ?!??

Seriously - not sure how I kept the bike upright/straight or whatever but the guys attitude was frickin disgraceful. I wouldn't have minded as much if he'd at least mouthed a "sorry" or put up a hand to acknowledge what he'd done, but no.....just a bloody big joke.  Winkers !!!!

(Rant ends - sorry!)

It would appear to be a sign of the times ... pass ya test in a week .. chuck highway code out the window..the road is now a race track and play ground .
It's a daily occurrence ... either in the car or bike but remember ya alive and said winkers will probably end in a ditch ..let the rage go they were only in ya life for 10 very worrying seconds .
Stay safe and ride on 😊😊
As a foot note ..personally ah would string em up on piano wire whilst use in a blunt hacksaw blade to remove nether regions ..whilst saying ....DO YOU SEE ME NOW WINKER ?????

 :agree:  Agree fully! :2guns:
The daily commute involves the M6, A38M and Birmingham ring road, it's full of them.
That's the only reason I fitted a camera, so hopefully if I get off'd by a tw*t I stand a chance of recompense!
Glad you survived, .............let it go............more beer and a good Sunday tea does the world of good!
Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.

I was in the rain yesterday lunchtime on the M6 in the 12.2 miles of 50mph average speed bit coming south and a black Renault Clio with three young lads in were "progressing" using any lane they thought was best in excess of 50 mph, I did give them the shake of the head but it didn't matter.

It's called experience riding a bike, you can just sometimes spot the looney before he gets you.
Ducati owner now but I used to have a Black one, the fastest version.

I have to say no matter how idiotic/dangerous a situation is, I try hard not to react negatively. Balanced on two wheels, we are just about always going to come of worst in any tit for tat situation.
If we are relating our own near misses, this one from earlier this year when I was on the blood bike was just about the nearest I have got to thinking 'this is it, I'm a gonner'

Well by rights, I should not be here either after early hours on Friday morning.
01:00 I am westbound, west of Swaffham, on the dual carriageway heading towards the A1122 roundabout.https://goo.gl/maps/McixCUiQrh12
HGV ahead in lane one, car ahead in lane two. I move to lane two to overtake the lorry when I see the car suddenly jink left at the end of his overtake. I am about a third of the way  down the HGV when I see a pair of headlights coming towards me in lane two !
The HGV moved as far left as he could, and I somehow managed to fit my motorbike on to the white line, as the approaching car must have missed me by inches.
I slowed and for a moment had self doubt that I was on the D2 section, wondering if I had passed the A1122 and was now on the S2 section of the A47, but then saw car headlights through the hedgerow on the eastbound carriageway.
The HGV stopped at the roundabout to check I was OK and said his on board camera has captured the incident and did I want the footage, but to be honest I was just thankful to be upright.

Twice in Scotland a couple of years ago when I was on the bike with Nigel as we were heading upto John O'Groats on some of the narrower roads we were confronted by German coach drivers who had briefly forgotten which side of the road they should be driving on.  :gun_bandana: Both laughed when they realised what they had done.

Worst situation I have ever been in was when I was out with the Mrs in her Mondeo travelling along a main road out of Bradford when I saw a camper van pull out of a junction to my near side and then come back on itself and start driving down the footpath to my left. Without warning the vehicle then rejoined the carriageway right in front of me, heading straight for me on my side of the road. I had to swerve to my offside to avoid a head on collision.
The wife was screaming and she said that she'd watched the van pass us on the near side and it had missed by inches. The van stopped a few yards behind me, I jumped out of the car and smacked the drivers window while shouting at him. The driver looked like he was in a trance and then set off up a side street. I discovered a few minutes later that the van was reported stolen. Even the cop who turned up asked me if I was all right as I was in a state of shock. Then I remembered I lived in Bradford and should be used to this appalling standard of driving. Proper shook me up it did.

in general driving standards on the roads in this country have declined dramatically, this may sound like a boast but I often can predict a stupid move by another driver some time before it occurs, its called experience which cannot be taught, us bikers are in the main much more savvy on the roads, self preservation is the name of the game.

Remember passing a driving test does not mean that you can actually drive !

OC, totally agree. I still remember day one of my advanced driving course, I thought I was a good driver, I wasn't, I could simply drive and I had a licence.

At the end of the course it was like I was a Jedi.  :mfr_lol:

It seems worse and worse but I work out of my home and don't drive as much so when I do, I'm just not used to the idiots on the road these days, especially the ones playing with their phones.  I'm more scared of them than drunk drivers.

The worst drivers have to be the Yanks wouldn't you agree?

I'm currently in Florida and they are pretty similar here.
Everybody seems to be on their phone and utterly oblivious  :nono: :death: :gun_bandana:.
Luckily I am used to the M25 so not much difference.

Trouble is people think that the driving license is a right, not a privilege they have earned!
We ALL make mistakes, just the severity and volume are hopefully less with us like minded folk!
Yes, I agree that as motorcyclists we are more aware and sub-consciously pre-empt situations, God bless the RAC / ACU and similar from the 80's and 90's for hammering this home!
But we should demonstrate our capability to drive according to human curtesy and the highway code (.......does that still exist?) to be allowed the privilege of a license to drive on public roads.
Every 5 years we should be "assessed" by DSA reps, with medical checks, and if still proficient and fit on the road we're allowed another 5 years.
When will I be next assessed....is it at 70? How much will my eyesight have degraded by then, and hearing / reaction times?    :wheelchair:
If not able to meet the criteria, then referred for further training till capable of driving safely.
Why do HGV drivers have such strict rules on them when the t*at that makes a 38-tonner swerve off the road into a bus stop is not checked?
SWMBO and the dog must be  fed up with my in-car entertainment when these  :asshole: are about, rant and suggested names etc!   :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored:

:agree: totally, especially regarding the LGV Licence,  having passed a heavy goods test I know all too well that it is very tough , passing this test most definitely improved my driving capabilities

Unfortunately the dsvla could not cope with conducting assessments every 5 years because currently they cannot cope with the no of test applications. The waiting time in some areas for a test is 14 weeks. And on that point would be virtually impossible to obtain a licence in a week. There ar.e intensive courses but they have a high fail rate. Less than 30 % pass first time in normal tests.
