Welcome to the madhouse Paul. Before I moved to Devon I lived at Rayleigh. My daughter still lives in Wickford

A warm welcome from me too. A mere newbie myself.
My parents used to live in Wickford. I once served tea and biscuits to the waiting drivers in the queues at Rayleigh Weir underpass about 20 years ago!

Well. Picked up the GTR this morning and done about 120miles on it so far. Coming off a r1200gs its a completely different ride. More power, more comfortable albeit will need to get used to the slightly forward riding position. At 6'3" I think maybe a taller touring screen will be beneficial.

A newbie question if you don't mind............. my initial concern is about losing the transponder. Do you guys just carry it in your pockets or is there some sort of case I can put it in? If I do happen to lose it will I able to start the bike with the spare key?

Will post pics later. Thanks

I'm well qualified to answer questions about lost transponders Paul, having lost my own a few months ago....firstly it costs £200+ to replace and re-programme, so make sure its safe - I recommend attaching it to a lanyard and keeping it inside a well secured zipped up pocket in your biking jacket.

You will have received a small emergency fob with your new bike which will start the bike if it is held against the headstock on the bike, its all well explained within your manual on page 97...the preceding pages provide info about the main transponder fob.

Hi PaulW and welcome.
I wear my fob on a lanyard around the neck never worrying about forgetting it or losing it.
That's my preference.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. The bike is Arabian Candy Red apparently. The wife likes it but she also liked the black one I had

Stuff the lanyard if you pardon my French, I have mine in a sealed plastic bag I nicked from the wife's kitchen and it lives in a waterproof pocket in my jacket, hardly ever comes out.

Jacket on bike starts and away I go, jacket always comes with me so Roberts your dads brother.
Ducati owner now but I used to have a Black one, the fastest version.

Welcome!  I attach my fob, in my pocket, to a chain that's attached to my belt.  it isn't going anywhere.

The reason I have a lanyard attached is so that if the fob is for some reason dropped then its much easier to find, plus in my last jacket pocket (Dainese) there was an adjustment cord which was ideal to fasten the lanyard too
