Recently traded my 08 for a new 2016 model and after the first road trip with my wife on the back (1000 klm in 4 days) she wants me to buy the old bike back!

I had the old bike for 8 years and we did 50k klm's together and my wife was on the back for a good number of those and never any complaints even at motorway speeds but this trip anything over 80 kph and she suffered severe buffeting around the head and felt neck and shoulder pain as a result.

I'm posting this in the hope someone out there may have experienced something similar and found some after market add on to solve the problem otherwise I'm looking for a new bike if I want the wife to tag along again.

I wonder if these side spoilers could help improve the situation?

Any thoughts / feedback welcomed - I like the bike!!

i cant see what the difference would be in a stock 08 v a stock 16. the newer model has a different screen with a cut out in it but thats all in terms of areodynamics . Was you 08 plate a stock screen?

My first question exactly.  We had issues with the stock screen on the 08 with head buffeting, especially when passing trucks.

Most of the road tests I've read state that pillions get buffeted on the GTR.

Would a larger screen help or would the vortex create more buffeting ?

I've currently settled on the CB Ultra Tour Dome for me but the effort of fitting screens is very subjective based on seat type, height from the waist up, posture sitting in relation to the bars (handlebars, Charlie), type of bars, etc..   So many factors, so little time.  I still use the stocker at times, but not with the wifey on board.

On the button Jim,

I fitted a Laminar Lip to my 2015 GTR, which wasn't because the seat or vented screen made much if any difference at all, it was because it improves the whole riding experience for me.

I really cannot see why a 2016 model should be any different to a 2008 model in respect of the pillion   :no:

The 2015/16 models have a slightly redesigned seat but only by narrowing the front by a small amount to allow the rider to put their feet down flatter, so this shouldn't affect the pillion

The pillion pegs on the 2016 model now have a rubber covering, but I cannot see why that should have any adverse effect on the pillion comfort/ wind turbulence

I have also fitted a Top Sellerie seat to mine because its more comfy than the standard OEM seat.

Maybe your pillion had softened the seat on your previous bike and the new one requires 'breaking in'

Beyond that I can't offer any more help, except to say, persevere with your new bike as it will probably get better after more use

Good luck and keep us posted  :yes:

On my 64 plate I have fitted risers and the laminar lip.
I am 5ft. 10 inch before the lip was fitted with the std screen fully up the wind hit the top of my helmet .
With the lip fitted the screen at its lowest I feel more on the chest and when I raise it the wind clears me I don't carry a pillion so can't help with that  I've used the std seat and the Kawasaki gel seat which is about 25 mm lower no difference to not .
Currently awaiting delivery of a Corbin seat  :clap: :clap:

Thanks to all for input;

I'm 175 cm, the missus is 165 cm and the 08 was dead stock and I only ever raised the screen when it was raining whether carrying pillion or not so this situation really puzzles me. A few things I've noticed different between the two which could influence the airflow;
Screen is larger (taller & wider), fairing is wider, my sitting position is straighter, wife is sitting slightly higher above me than before and she hasn't grown any, at least not in that direction! Anyway I'll try to "borrow" the seat and screen off the old bike and see what the result is.

Pls keep the comments coming as I'm keen to find a solution so I can keep the bike and the wife - it's a great ride!!

Glad yer finally got the screen thing sorted   :clap: :clap: :clap:

So if yer 6ft + the way to go is Calsci XL plus Laminer Lip.......result

Is the riding position still stock or have you fitted bar risers and or different seat Stoli ?

I remember you were trying the pillion foot peg lowering kit as your good lady has very long legs

Yep. Done 2 long trips. Catalunya GP n back in 4 days and euro tour over 7 days. Both fine with Calsci XL n the lip fitted. Managed to find a std screen with lip on eBay for all of £11 !!!  Just took the lip off n fitted to Calsci

Got lowering rear leg jobbies for rear. Perfect.

Bikes currently in bits with lots of gold powder coat being done.

Also. Gotta say. pR4 GT's are stunning

Mines looking a tad tired so it's apart at the mo

It was dropped by previous owner. Just off side stand and scratched the inner panel which I covered with a gold Phoenix decal. So now wheels, front peg mounts, rear peg mounts, rear lowering kit and the rear brake carrier are all off being matched in gold.

Will post a pick up soon.

As its the brown bike it should look great.
