Can anyone point me to the topic where someone powder coated their mainstand. I've searched and searched and failed to find it.

I'm particularly interested in how, or if. they removed it with out removing the swing arm.

My stand, on a bike ridden all year round, is looking pretty manky. Kawasaki seem to have blown the merest vapour of paint over it. If it's easy to remove then I'll get it coated (before the rust moves from just being surface/cosmetic) otherwise it will get the Hammerite treatment.

Thanks Burchy. I'd seen that in the PDF. Should have said lower arm not swing arm in the question. ;)

I seem to remember the post saying they managed to get their's off with dismantling the suspension parts.

Think The Wolf did the stand on his last GTR

No doubt he will put me right........... :whistling:

I cleaned mine up and coated it in Hammerite

Twas I who powder coated my centre stand and although I was initially mocked for doing it, the results were outstanding. I'll find a photo if I still have them and show you the before and after pics.
What I can say though is that it was a ball ache to get off the bike.

What The Wolf fails to mention ....................

He did such a good job of it that when he liquidated his asset prior to leaving the country his trade buyer gave top book plus for the quality powder coat feature centre stand   :whistling:

Here you go. I can't remember exactly what the place charged me but it was either £10 or £20. Well worth the effort.

I had mine replaced under warranty so the dealer did it.
At that point I hadn't ridden it on salted roads.
Replacement has stood up much better.

Mine's not quite as rusty as yours (copious quantities of ACF50) but it's getting there!  Damn riders using their bikes all year round!

Looks good powder coated. :)

So this ball ache ... did you remove the suspension parts or can you get a spanner in there and just undo the stand bolts/nuts (with a bit of effort)?

Lonewolf

You can't get to the bolts to drop the stand until you've dropped the frame around it. I can't remember the details but the bike had to be placed on a bike ramp and then part of the frame was dropped to allow access to the fixings. I vaguely recall that the shock was removed but I could be wrong on that. Either way it's not a job for the faint hearted

Mike I'll get mine on the lift and have a look at how difficult it might be to get off. I've put aftermarket centre stands on a couple of bikes now and the biggest 'problem' can be the springs although I seem to have worked out a way to get them on without loosing skin or them flying off. If you can get it off then Mr P's friend in Felixstowe could powder coat it for you. Did an excellent job on my Bandit's generator cover. (SC)
