So if one was to get a TPS sensor replaced under warranty due to the dreaded error message of the battery being low, and its one of those which can be opened up and battery changed, and the new replacement one is the sealed type, can A) i insist i have MY TPS sensor which i purchased with the bike returned to me rather than the dealer taking it away, and B) if i changed the battery would it still work on the bike should i need to change it in the future?

If it was a warranty replacement the dealer will probably keep it to show Kawasaki that they did the work.

If you put it back on the bike you will have to reprogram the ECU to recognize it.

I can understand the dealer wanting it to show kawasaki, but I OWN IT, and its mine, i would happily sell it back to Kawasaki for a small fee if they want it for research purposes.

I also understand it mght need programming, but thats the small part of the cost, the actual harware is the pricey bit.

I wouldn't have thought it would need to be reprogrammed back to the bike as it's already done.

I think you will find on warranty Alan that when a replacement part is exchanged, you then become the proud owner of a new part and not of the old one,,,,,you might find if you ask nicely that they will give it you back...........or not.

If the sensor just has the battery changed...no programming required.  New sensor has to mated (electronically) to the bike to work.

What do they actually achieve ?       Are they really that lonely..?

My understanding is that as with the motor industry (I have worked for a manufacturer in the past) all warranty replacement parts must be retained by the dealer for a set period if they are not due automatic return, in case they are required as part of the dealer audit programme.

The manufacturer will assume ownership of any part that has been replaced under warranty.

They don't get any love on my site.  There's a reason I wave a sword.
