I was a bit bored this morning so thought I'd have a look at removing the fairings to give them a good polish and see what was underneath them.
I've taken the fairings off the pre 2010 model many times but never done the new GTR. I have to admit it wasn't as easy as I'd hoped. Still, a bit of carefull planning and thought and I got them off in one piece.
A few have asked recently how much room is under the fairing and how do they come off. Well they are pretty difficult to get off if I'm honest but not impossible. They were certainly a lot easier to put back on than take off. Its possible that the next time I want them off it'll be a lot easier now I know where the lugs and clips are.

Hopefully the photo's will help someone.

steve, it would I've been a good idea to top the reservior bottle to the max while it was excessible  did you need to remove the glove box to remove the middle fairing, or just loosen to give enough room to maneuver the fairing clear. also it looks like you would need to remove the glove box supporting bracket to gain excess to the air filter housing, and where are the glove box supporting brackets bolts/nuts attached to. just for future reference
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

If you were that bored you decided to take the fairing off you really need to get out more - I suggest Seaways when I am ashore!

Dave, you dont want to know much do you?  :mfr_lol:
The reservour level is fine. When it gets warm the level rises, if you over fill it will cause problems.

Chris I might head out that way tomorrow, I need to get out on the bike for a decent ride and try out the new HD GoPro 2.

steve I don't mean fill to the top.. doh! just to the max line  this will allow for any natural evaporation that can burn off! however small  p.s what about the other question? I asked! :whistling: come on  you started this post, I'm just paying an interest so you don't loose interest and begin to wonder why the hell you botherd in the first place

  Glove box, yes that needs to be removed. You might be able to just slacken it off, I dont know, I just took it off it seemed the easier thing to do.
I didn't look at anything else like changing the air filter.

I'm a firm believer in killing 2 birds many birds with one stone, so pending the mileage. I would have pop a new air filter in, top the reservoir up to max  changed the clutch fluid and give a dam good clean while all the fairings were off

I did give it damn good clean, I even polished the fairing with it off.

Hi Steve,
In the second pic the leading edge part of the fairing is left on the bike. I've just had a bit of damage done here by a flying stone. Question is, can it be taken off without removing other fairing parts?

Thanks
David.
