Simple question, how does one do it?

mmm, good one, Im sure its a pain in the chuff. Ive lubed the actual cable on other bikes by taking off the cable at throttle end and getting some 3in1 down the tube. If you have something sticking id try greasing the moving parts at throttle body end first. Sometimes its the actual throttle tube on the bars that sticks a bit rather than cables ,
do you have a problem or just after routine maintenance ?

BigAlan

Just routine stuff, I want to keep on top of stuff, I tend to over service the bike and clean and polish way to much but it was a big investment so it had to be kept tip top.

Just for information, I got told - Don't do it.....

Apparently what happens is the oil, penetrates the outer sheathing, which makes it expand in both directions, squeezing the inner coiled metal sheathing, then squeezes the cables and actually over time makes it worse....

Its just what I've been told.

that makes sense, id just do it if I actually had any problems. I did all my maintenance on my zzr1200 through out the 8 years I had it and didn't lube the cables, I don't plan to do it on my gtr either, unless it actually got sticky

O.C.

I found this Al   although I've never done it myself

I used to  squirt a bit of 3 in 1 down the outer cables on my off road bikes though
