i ordered an aluminuim rack & a givi/cappa monolock adaptor plate from CHAINSPEED.CO.UK,made by SW-MOTECH for my gtr about 4 week's ago,it arrived today & is all fitted, well chuffed with the quality of the rack & adaptor plate, just to let you know the KAWASAKI TOP BOX fit's the supplied adaptor plate,it's a more solid fit on the aluminuim rack as opposed to that  :shit: plastic one.WELL HAPPY.

Chainspeed... excellent people to deal with   :agree:

Still don't see the point in putting an flimsy box on a solid plate.  :whistling:
I never had a problem with the Monokey box I had on the Bandit - steel plate - solid as a rock.
Well, the rubber spacers tended to break after a while, but after I bought a bag full of them - no further problems.
But then on the GTR I had one of the rubber spacers stuck to the box when I take it off every now and then too.  :ohplease:
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

O.C.

I know this is an old thread but here goes

my top box was very flimsy so I wobbled it to see which bit actually wobbles and its a combination of the box, the locking plate and the baseplate all flexing

the topbox flex can be all but cured by simply fitting extra rubber washers under the rubber feet  - that's virtually enough to cure the whole problem
but  when you wobble the box again you see just how much the locking plate flexes.
are the alu rack adapter plates also aluminium?
im halfway through making an alloy baseplate out of 12mm alloy (I know overkill) and only realised I would be wasting my time as its the locking or adapter plate that needs sorting
if the alu rack adapter plate is alloy then im guessing that that alone would be prob a good enough solution on its own combined with extra washers under the box

I made my own out of 6mm aluminium plate.. 12mm is far too thick.

Zebedee

I concur 12mm is way ott

yeah I know but the reason I went for 12mm is that I am gonna drill two holes and attach a car seat headrest to act as a backrest so no weight rests on the top box then it can flex all it likes as long as my wifes back is secure :smartass:
I can tig weld and am gonna weld on threaded stud to the ends of the headrest legs
thinner plate would maybe flex too much
I rang motohaus who sell the alu rack and the adapter plate is plastic.....

There's no flex in a 6mm plate

aljaxon

can you imagine a headrest bolted to it though debs? the leverage from 6 inch legs would surely cause it to flex?

The headrest would flex first

before I had thought of welding threaded stud onto the legs  I was simply gonna do a push fit and 12mm was the smallest I dare go before thinking the holes would wear out
then the threaded stud came AFTER I'd bought it
I still might abort the welding stud idea and simply push/press fit
any thinner than 12mm I wouldn't be able to do that

I make exhaust pipes and  I use a laser cutting shop to cut out the metal and they quoted me 15 quid to not only cut it to shape but also put lots of nice weight reducing slots and holes in it so it don't matter how much over the top it is it will be well up to the job and nice and light (ish)

as it happened 4 rubber washers under the topbox stiffened it up enough to maybe abort the plate/headrest idea
still its always handy to have a foot square piece of 12mm plate in your garage . . .
