Can anyone from West Yorkshire answer this?

In Scarborough, on the on-street meter bays, you are not required to purchase a pay and display ticket to park in them.

Does anyone on here know if this is the same in Leeds - I have read the "A-Z Leeds parking" on the council website - but its not specific either way, in fact it does not mention motorcycles at all albeit a short section on "solo motorcycle only bays".  Have to go to some training next week at the Raddison Blu.

Thanks Guys.

I'd call Leeds Council to be on the safe side. I'm sure you will have to pay though.

OK will try that

The argument used over here for bikes not needing to pay and display is you can't place the ticket anywhere secure where it can't either blow, wash or be taken away by someone.  Unless you have to put your reg number in the machine that prints the ticket, I can't really see how they can treat a motorcycle differently.

Jenni: Hello, you are now chatting with Jenni
Andrew: Hi. I'm visiting leeds next week on a training course. In scarborough we don't have to pay in an on street meter parking pay if riding a motorcycle, is that the same in Leeds?
Jenni: Hi let me check ..b
Jenni: Just on with Parking services now..
Jenni: okay they have advised that if in bay to purchase a ticket and keep on you and you will be likely issued a fine but ticket will stop this. However there are free motorcycle bays around the city centre ...
Andrew: Ok thanks jenni. bye.

Well that's the answer then.  Either way you probably get a ticket and have to fight it.  Like most councils, cure is better than prevention.  :stupid:

This is what the situation is like where Kirklees is the council:

QuoteMotor cycles can park in on-street pay and display parking places free of charge and without time limit. However, the council would ask that all motor cycles are parked nose to kerb (herring bone fashion) where possible, to maximise the use of the parking place. Section 136 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 defines a motor cycle as follows:

  • In this Act (except for the purposes of [F1sections 57 and 63]) "motor cycle" means a mechanically propelled vehicle (not being an invalid carriage) with fewer than 4 wheels, of which the weight un-laden does not exceed 410 kilograms.
If you park a motor cycle in a full car park space you need to purchase a ticket and this should be kept with you.

I assume the point made in bold is if you don't park your bike nose to kerb.
