Debs,

I ran my original discs down to 3.97mm before I changed them at about 39k miles. They were still working perfectly well, no warping or negative symptoms whatsever, so yours should still have plenty of miles in them if you wanted to run them longer. Boomer did very similar I think.

I put a pair of Arashi discs on this time, and after 3,000 miles on them, I am still undecided about them. They certainly do the fundamental role of the brake disc fine, i.e. plenty of stopping power even when braking hard from high speed, and no signs of wear so far.

However, in my opinion, they are not great at the finesse part - the cooling slots are so large that the pad area touching the disc varies a lot as it rotates, and this translates into a real pulsing on the brakes, as if I was applying slightly more, then slightly less brake force many times a second. Speaking personally, it is enough to make me doubt the brakes - I am going to give them a few thousand miles more testing, but I think I am likely to swap them out for another set of OEMs, despite the fact that they are 4 times the price.

Martin.

65,000 miles now. Loving this bike.

Thanks Martin...

Im going to run mine for a bit longer before changing them... I'm on a limited budget so I don't mind trying these cheaper ones out..

Well im also going to go down the route of aftermarket discs. MR Kwak wont replace the disc that has an above normal run out.

Robspeed Motorcycles fought my corner and managed to get ( good will gesture )  a disc and pads at half price.....whooopeeeeee !!!

£140 quid plus labour for one disc. ????  take the Pi@@ or what.

" you should use genuine Kawasaki parts as you know they are top quality and stringently tested "..... APPARENTLY NOT judging by all the claims for warped discs on new bikes.

So im picking Marmite back up tomorrow after having the disintegrating glove box replaced and will not be buying a new one.....
So MR KAWASAKI, for the sake of £140 you just LOST a customer and a £13500 sale.........to Yamaha.

Im still keeping Marmite hopefully, for many years to come, but I will never buy a new or nearly new Kwak again.

Yamaha customer service is far superior, and the big service is better done at the FJR club workshop........

Now you can look at the t!t$....... :mfr_lol:

My 2010 bike has only done 12k and discs are 0.9mm warped so Kawasaki are going to replace :-) Disc spec has changed twice since 2010.
