A bit of advice needed , ive got annual virgin travel insurance , mainly for the medical side of things. Ive just phoned them to check cover for our bike trip and have been informed that we are not covered should we have an accident on our bike.

Do I need medical cover if im going to mainland Europe, would my EHIC card not cover me. ?

what do you guys do ?

Zebedee

Card only for EU medical Travel for everything else.

In some cases, motorcycle insurers are now providing medical cover as part of the main policy (i.e. my Footman James policy provides this in additon to breakdown cover, valid throughout europe and some other countries).

Perhaps your insurer does the same?

my Swinton policy does not provide euro travel insurance , I did try to upgrade today but after an hour of dept passing around and 2 quotes that didn't include motorbike cover I gave up.

im beginning to wonder what I need the policy for, my virgin travel insurance covers me in all other aspects, just not if we have an accident on the bike, then my ehic card would cover the medical side of things , yes /no?

I suspect that the problem would be that if you had an accident on the bike and needed repatriation to the UK, you would be in difficulty. The EHIC will only give you emergency access to the medical facilities in the country concerned and nothing else.

I have been with FJ for some years now, primarily because of the wide - ranging cover provided (I am sure that others offer similar or the same).

At renewal last year, I did speak to the broker who arranges our car, business and other insurances. His advice was to use a specialist for motorcycle cover, as his company would have to try to tie together several policies to achieve the same results that a specialist could offer under one policy.

I use bikertravelinsurance.co.uk
Hope this clears it up lol
