well i could through a spanner in the works here,i now have bryns old bike, and yes it was brilliant power but not good at low revs, like under 2500 revs,i have put the butterflies back in ,and to be honest its better but not perfect ,fueling not as good as my 09 hayabusa or my old 1250 bandit that i once had.
its just got a bit of a hesitant spot at low revs.
if i was in that area and geoff at hilltop offered to put it back to standard i think i would take him up on it,i have allready spoke to geoff about it .

In 'standard' format the GTR provides its power at a different range and in a different way than both the Hyabusa and the 1250 Bandit. TBH it never did 'pull' as well as its 1400cc engine might suggest, and you will find that you need to 'use' the gearbox quite regularly.

I don't think you should expect it to be the same or even better than the two aforementioned machines, however it is a supremely competent long distance mile muncher

If your GTR has been 'modified' it may not now be as suitable for your requirements as it would be in standard format

Thanks Bryn, was wondering more specifically is there advantages / disadvantages of ECU remap over the power commander, can I assume the ECU remap fueling can be incrementally fine tuned as much as the Power Commander ?

Power Commander only affects fuelling. ECU controls fuelling and also controls when butterflies open and how quickly etc.

yes i know and understand that.to be honest i really need to ride another gtr14 totally standard just to see how they compare.
in all honesty it will pull tree stumps out ,its just that low revs slow speed i need to keep control of the clutch .

I had a power commander fitted to mine and it set up on the dyno at BSD in Peterborough.  The bike had a Two Brothers pipe on it when I got it and it ran rough and hesitated at around 4000 rpm.

They also fitted a K&N at the same time and it now runs as smooth as you could wish through the rev range.

Best money spent on the bike in my opinion and the guys at BSD are so helpful and knowledgable as they seem to set up many race bikes but really listened and asked how and why I use my GTR as they then mapped the bike to suit by needs and riding style.

my gtr is totally standard, I like the way it runs and have never experienced issues at all. maybe it could be smoother or indeed have more power , but how much power do I really need from a big tourer.

I personally would never mess with the factory set up of these machines unless there was a generic real problem that Kawasaki couldn't fix.

well yesterday i took my gtr back to hilltop who did the the original remap ,geoff took the remap back out of the ecu and reinstalled the factory mapping .
i left there and was straight back on the motorway ,and it was raining hard so i cant really tell if any difference .
but the initial feeling is good .

Thanks for Your input Guys, I want to improve the power delivery below 3000 revs as it is hesitant and lumpy, compounded by the fact I've fitted a Hexacone can, though running with the baffle in place is a slight improvement.Even with the standard potato launcher I was unhappy. My experience of other bikes and the fact that manufactureres set up is more about EU emissions than optimum set up leans me towards fitting power Commander and custom map,as previous bikes.ive experienced new bikes running lean, then compounded by fitting aftermarket exhaust systems so guess the piggy bank will have to be broken one way or another.

ah , the aftermarket can = poor running issues, we see this comment time after time for you chaps who are thinking of ditching the spud launcher.

ive never understood the desire to fit noisy exhausts to bikes ,  but im sure thats a minority view as nearly everybike I see has different cans

Mine had the Beowulf fitted and was smooth as can be with no remap or power commander.

Was changed purely for aesthetic reasons and the baffle never came out.

Slightly out of thread but I took the baffles out of my Gs Akrapovic and even with ear plugs in I can hear it burp fart whistle and pop .. I love it so much I am going to treat the Scots later this year !  :agree:

don't mind the standard can noise, but it's looks are hideous, particularly without panniers, but for me the fueling is wrong at low revs as standard.ive read lots of complaints about poor low rev power delivery and it was the only real disappointment for me after I bought the bike,if it can be improved it will be a keeper

Not sure if this is a coincidence, but I took the bike out tonight for a little ride out and noticed how much smoother it was when rolling on from low revs and at junctions. Not had chance to get the bike out for a few weeks, then remembered that the only thing I've done to the bike since the last time it was ridden was to replace the dirty air filter for a reusable foam pipercross one. I didn't get it for performance reasons, just for fact its reusable. Could be the best mod I've made.

thanks for the advice, the bike has just had its 7500 mile service so although I haven't checked would like to think the filter isn't dirty, perhaps I'll have all ok see, cheers
