Well thanks to Asif and his pictures on the earlier topic this afternoon I greased my splines, took me from start to finish a fraction over 2 hours with a coffee chucked in, one Allen bolt was a little tight but with the right purchase I got it undone, it's not as hard as you think, the tip about holding the Diff up on a trolley jack was excellent, that helped no end.

Like Asif I spread the grease well over the splines and away it went.

So if in doubt, do it.

I'm doing mine shortly, I say I'm doing mine....Asif has agreed to allow me to use his garage to do it in while he oversees the procedure.

It's easy, just get the kettle on and away you go.

took my rear wheel out last night in less than 10 mins looking for a mysterious puncture, greased my splines at the same time  , last time I did it I put a bit too much in and it ended up on the rim after a ride.

that big hex bolt that holds the caliper bracket in place gets awful tight despite me putting some copper grease on the threads last time.

you defo do not need the big hex socket to take out the rear axle, just the spanner that comes with the bike

BigAlan

Ahhhh but did you grease the driveshaft splines?

That's a bit more than just doing the wheel ones, Asif and I are "experts" in this now

I check mine and re-grease it with Honda moly paste every time I change out the rear tire.  Keep an eye on the u-joints as this is what got us to checking ours out in the US in the first place.  Sometimes you'll hear a clicking noise and usually greasing it fixes that.  I've done mine several times now.  Watch that little pin that holds the shaft as it's spring loaded.  First time I did it, I wasn't aware of how springy it was and it flew off.  Took me awhile to find it again.

Do you have a link? I wouldn't mind seeing that thread. Searched 'greasing the splines' without success.
