As a starting point..........Does the cooling fan cut in? Park the bike up and let it tick over and listen for the whirring sound of the fan starting. If it cuts in and the temp drops then you should be OK. If not check connections and make sure water level is ok.

Lonewolf

If the temp gauge is running at two or three bars, that isnt a problem. Dont forget its been quite hot today. You could consider changing your coolant if you are really concerned about the apparant increase in temperature but I certainly wouldnt be unduly worried. I cant remember from memory how many bars there are but mine which is also an 07 plate occasionally increases in temperature and then the fan will cut in. This only happens in certain circumstances, i.e. when I am queuing in traffic or stuck in a jam etc.

If the bike was getting so hot that the fan kicked in when I was riding at 30/40+ then I'd be worried, but it doesn't. Dont worry about it. The GTR has a system built into it to display a warning when the bike is getting dangerously hot, I've never been there yet.

As LW says, nothing to worry about. Mine is one bar on motorway, and then shoots up in normal traffic 3-4 bars. When I'm getting ready to park the fan always comes on

Mine regularly runs 2-3 bars.

On warm or hot days the GTR does run hot.

I fitted a Beowulf Rad Guard and it didn't change the heat build up at all.

Hi

I don't think you have anything in particular to worry about.

The fitting of any make of radiator cover will have a very very very slight impact on the cooling efficiency of the radiator. The only observation I had of fitting a radiator cover to my CBF1000 is the cooling fan would kick in a bit earlier than it had done previously, other CBF1000 owners had similar experiences. The reason behind this is the cover slightly reduces the quantity of air passing through the radiator and the net effect is it that it raises the coolant temperature very slightly, this triggers the cooling fan slightly earlier than if you had no radiator cover but the bike was still operating within its normal temperature range.

I have a radiator cover fitted to my 2010 GTR and even being stationary in traffic during the recent hot spell of weather the temperature gauge goes up a bar or two but the bike is still well within its operating temperature range. The cooling fan is designed to operate at a temperature range well below the point of there being any risk of the bike over heating, it is the way modern engines and cooling systems for bikes and cars are designed.

The other thing to bear in mind is this bike is sold and used in countries where the climate is a lot warmer than ours.

Kind regards

Steven

The weather should be as good if not better, Lord Rusty said he'd booked it!

Rusty

The weather WILL be fine or heads will roll !
Just as the others have stated ... nothing to worry about with your heating bars going up .. that's a big 1400cc engine having been given a pretty good seeing to throughout your journey so it is going to get hot ... no worries mate.

after first of gtr this afternoon in hottest day of  yr here found in crawlin traffic was quickly getting all bars lite up an fans cutting in then back to 4 when on move. rad appears clean an intact, coolant ok but unsure of norm.

Winston Smith

They do run hot - provided it's cooling down under the fan it'll be OK.

Bear in mind it has been 90 degree F today

I would regard it as normal behaviour.

A month ago both FH and myself where in France and on a couple of days the temperatures were up in the mid to high 20's. In stationary/slow moving traffic the temp gauge on mine (2010) was up to 4 bars ie one above normal and the fan kicked in - basically normal behaviour.

thanx, can focus on learning/enjoying a great bike, last yr on blade an r1 am ready for this (so is my spine)  8)

Kwikasfuki

I forgot how much heat this bike gives off. As soon as I'd stop the fan would kick in
