Viper - It's the CTX he doesn't like.  STX1300 is sometimes used for the Pan European

er, oh oops, a senior moment there from viper towers.

Thanks for the welcomes and feedbacks guys.

Yes, been riding 34 years now, the last 12 on 1300cc Pans, but all Honda's from a crunch (C70) to a Blackbird, with the exception of a Kwacker KH100 stinky two-stroke (ring ding ding). Currently do 8-10K miles a year sampling bacon sarnies at various destinations and as a Senior Observer with my local IAM Group ( :clap: or  :no: depending on your point of view  :wink: ).

Username = STX1300
Abomination = CTX1300  :no:

The STX1300 was/is the official designation of what most people call a Pan, or a Pan European, or just plain ST1300 (in the USA).

I'm looking forward to my time on a GTR which from the test rides I have is a cross between a Blackbird and a Pan.  :smiley:

welcome aboard and great to see you are still with us. Looking forward to hearing your views on the gtr v the pan , especially as i really fancy the pan .

whats the time mr wolf? mutiny time

seriously tho, i did test drive the current pan ahead of buying the Gtr, I couldnt fault the Pan in terms of comfort , handling and general touring ability. Doesnt win any beauty pagents but neither does the Gtr. I found the feel of the v4 a bit strange but id get used to that.
all in all a very credible bike, i went for the gtr because it had the x factor.

I truly hope Mr Honda is not going to replace the Pan with that CTX thing   :no:

Confession time Charlie, I also looked at a Pan before I bought my first GTR. My wife was with me, she has no interest whatsoever in bikes, she didn't like the look of the Pan, I told her I'd been looking at a GTR and showed her a photo, her actual words and I quote, "THAT LOOKS NICE, WHY DONT YOU BUY IT".

Well it goes without saying I always do as I'm told.  :whistling:

It doesn't matter to me what Honda do (why would it) I've thought for quite some time that Honda R&D/Design has lost the plot and in my opinion the CTX serves to confirm that view.

Welcome aboard,
All my friends describe the GTR as a VRF800 on Steroids.
On friend spent ages telling me how crap shaft drives were.
Eventually I goaded him into taking a test ride and he came back gushing about the power and the handling and the total lack of shaft reaction.

I never got on with the STs. My legs are too long and my knees hit the fairing on the ST1100.
The 1300 was a bit better but still not comfy for me,...... and then I saw one without the panniers and lost my lunch.
I always ride without panniers unless they are absolutely needed.
