Well I didn't bottle it like Viv, I have the centre stand off and what a  :censored:  it is to get off!

Basically although there are only two bolts holding the centre stand in place (and a spring) it was never going to be that easy.

You cant get to the bolt nuts from the stand without dropping the shock adjuster, oh and you cant fully and easily get to the shock adjuster fastenings without first removing the rear section of the standard exhaust. I'm not saying that you wont be lucky and be able to loosen the shock release bolts without removing the exhaust but if your bolts are as seized on as mine were this morning to make matters easier for yourself, give yourself plenty of room by removing the exhaust. The bolts which go through the stand have nuts to the rear which aren't tagged to the frame so unless you clear the shock, the bolts, assuming you actually get them moving will just spin and spin. Once you've dropped the shock its very easy to get a spanner in there and onto the appropriate nuts from the stand bolts.

Hopefully that makes sense.

So finally the stand was off and here it is, looking at the condition of it, its easy to see why you may have some difficulty in removing the required bolts. Obviously it gets bombarded with all the crap on the road, hence its current condition.

It may look bad but it'll come up a treat after its been lovingly powder coated. I'll post some pics of it once I get it back, should be a vast improvement.

thanks for putting that on, my centre stand is in good nick but next winter I may take off and hammerite up anyway.
I recently took my shocker out and I too had to remove the exhaust to get to the bolt that holds the lower part of the shocker in. When I reassembled I put the bolt back in with the nut of the bolt on the opposite side, so in future I wont need to remove the exhaust .

Viper, while the centre stand is off at least I can get to the underside of the bike which I am going to clean up tomorrow. Incidentally, one of the bolts on the shock was so tight it could only be released with an impact driver.

:mfr_lol: Didn't you only very recently do a complete front and rear brake fluid drain, just because you could?

I've no further questions M'Lord.

Life must be so easy when you don't work shifts!  :mfr_lol:

Ant

I actually used to get more done when I did work shifts, can't say id like to go back to them though......

viper

don't think id waste money on a powdercoat for something under the bike. Good preparation and 2 thin coats or hammerite will suffice . you can check it each time you do an oil change and retouch when needed

Rusty

That's going to look really good when it's done but   ... It's in a really bad state Steve .. I'm quite shocked !

Lonewolf

For the sake of £15 to have it tarted up I thought what the hell go for it. It is quite a mess.

Kwikasfuki

Yeah, its absolutely disgusting Steve. You've really let go of your bike ...

Picked up the centre stand this afternoon and what a transformation. On top of that they only charged me £10. I'll post a pic tomorrow when I can take one in daylight. Definitely worth the trouble to do it though.

Lonewolf

They say a picture speaks a thousand words, for the sake of £10 this is what I now have.

Kwikasfuki

Looks good but I still stand by my original question. Why?
