Hi

The front wheel on the trike has a few marks in the paint on the rim from tyre changing and what looks like a curbing, not by me I hasten to add. I want to strip the paint off the rim and polish them, leaving the rest of the wheel painted.
Tried Nitromors and a Polycell stripper - both had no effect at all, any suggestions?

Have you considered getting it shot blasted?

FWIW be careful when doing internet searches for "paint stripper"...

Richard I wonder if vapour blasting might be a more gentle way of achieving your objective as shot blasting can be very aggressive on cast surfaces

Hi

Thanks for the varied replies..... LOL

I was, maybe naively assuming I could strip the paint just from the area I want to polish with a suitable horrible chemical of some sort, but so far nothing has had any affect at all....
Will try some solvents, think I have some cellulose thinners and a bottle of Toluene somewhere, and some Trichloroethane, if not either kick the idea into touch for now or resort to wet and dry etc.

hi richard i have always used nitromorse to strip paint off aluminium parts to have them polished, but for some reason about a year ago the nitromorse does not seem to be as strong as it used to be ,the kast time i used it i had to leave it on for ages then just use wet and dry follwed by brillo pads, good luck it it hard work but you will get a good result eventually ,just time consuming and hard on your hands !!!

Kawasaki used to powdercoat the middle of the wheels and spray paint the outer edges.  Nitromors will strip away the sprayed stuff but won't look at the powercoating.  Seems like you might have fully powdercoated wheels...

After many hours with wet and dry this is the result

I am happy, and the front wheel ties in much better with the backs now

good result richard there is no substitute for hard work.  think there might be an opportunity for you to use you talents on other peoples wheeels!!!!!!!

The reason Nitromors didn't work is because of the dreaded H & S regulations the product was "watered" down and is now virtually ineffective, a local sprayer told me this after I questioned him about it.

Nice polishing work there   :agree:

I used these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/40-x-WET-AND-DRY-FOAM-SANDING-BLOCKS-PADS-SANDPAPER-/390742536586?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item5afa11f18a

They work well and are easy to use as they conform to the shape of whatever you are sanding, then Autosol.
