this maybe of use to anyone new to the 2010 model who like me is hosting a gaggle of electrical farkles on their bike

The accessory circuit provides power to the cig lighter on the dash and provides power to the spare accessory wires hidden in the front cockpit and also hidden near the rear light cluster . Its protected by a 5amp fuse on the post 2010 bikes and a 10amp fuse on the pre 2010 bikes. The wire thickness is the same on both models. The fuse is in a black  holder  under the seat marked " Accessory"

5amps will only run appliances up to 60 or 70 amps, that's not a lot , wont run a tyre compressor . You can confidently put a 10 amp fuse in that circuit without compromising the integrity of the circuit. Today I put a 20 amp fuse in and deliberately shorted the circuit, fuse blew instantly with no damage to the wiring, the wires are rated at about 30amps , however don't exceed a 10 amp fuse.

your charger for your iphone is only going to pull about 1 amp and similar for other small items such as sat nav ect.

I am sure I read somewhere that the fuse is down rated due to the factory fit heated grips on the +2010 models taking some of the capacity.

Already found out all that the hard way!  10amp works fine with the heated grips and a tomtom mount and (not at the same time) a decent 12v pump

that does not make sense, the heated grips are on a different circuit, and even if it were not, making a fuse smaller because you need more power is not right.

ive been running a 10amp fuse since I got the bike 3 years ago and all is fine, you only need the larger fuse should you want to run a tyre compressor

Both fuse number 5 [accessories] and number 6 [grip heater] are fed by the same wire. I am guessing Kawasaki played it safe by down rating fuse 5 in case the grips were on full heat and the accessory output being used at the same time. I do not disagree with your comments on changing it for a 10 amp though.

10 amp fuse fitted and compressor added to my toolkit. Thanks for solving that problem. What a great forum this is!
