Debs

Now I have more problems with Baby..

I went away to Paris for the weekend, and on the way there she developed a sound like a worn bearing. This only happened when I come off the power and in any gear. The further I went the worse it got.. I made it home yesterday and took her to Bournemouth Kawasaki.

I have been told that it could be either: a wheel bearing, drive shaft bearing OR something wrong with the drive at the engine end..

Tigg the mechanic said that they have no idea which it is until they dismantle her..

I don't think its a wheel bearing though...

They do have a 2010 Magnesium GTR with 16k on the clock for £7500.. Its so tempting as Baby has just passed 55560 miles...

Hmmmmmmmm

Best to get a considered opinion on what it is before making any rash decisions, it could be a wheel bearing which is easy enough, if it's more then time to decide what's best for your piece of mind and pocket.

Ducati owner now but I used to have a Black one, the fastest version.
Previous, Sprint ST (2), VFR 800, Fireblade's (4) SP1, VTR1000, GPZ900, CB250, BSA Bantam D14/4, Suzuki TS100, SX200.

Well baby has to be repaired anyway if I do decide to part ex her

O.C.

Yeah I agree with Al Debs, wait till they give you an opinion, TBH it sounds more like a drive problem to me, and maybe, just maybe Baby is due to be re-homed, I reckon that if that's the case that your dealer should be able to look after you

Debs, joking apart, you've unfortunately had a few issues recently with 'baby' as you choose to call the GTR :nono: . As hard a decision as it is, perhaps it's time to let it go.

Just cut your losses, bite the bullet and kick that old GTR down the scrappers.  :whistling:

You know I was only joking.... :mfr_lol:
I'd get it diagnosed, but make the dealer aware that you are thinking of doing a px. Weigh up your options, but seriously have a look at trading her in.

viper

sounds like a drive shaft bearing ,

It does not have to be repaired by kawsaki main dealer, you could get the parts and get a mobile or cheaper mechanic to do the work.

I guess we've all had bikes or cars like this though, where you wish you got rid the month before something went bang and cost 500 quid.
Its down to that fine line where you try to work out whether to trade it for something newer or hope it goes on for another 50000 miles trouble free.

Keep yer chin up Debs, it might not be as bad as you think, and you might just be having a bit of an unlucky run where bearings and bits and bobs are just wearing out at the same time. It might cost you a few hundred quid to sort out, but still might be cheaper than the depreciation on the newer bike.

pistole

Bike on center stand , any lateral movement with the rear wheel ?

Maybe rear wheel bearing. If its the main drive crown bearing , thats going to be expensive.

I'd say that's expensive, I've seen new ones for a similar price. If you choose to PX I'd simply set my sights on anything 2010 +, lots of bargains out there.

Debs, sorry to hear about your further misfortune,    A mate of mine has just swapped in his one owner, near mint, very low mileage GTR in for a new Triumph,  it may be of interest to you.   [email protected]
