Any Boston Red Sox fans on this forum?

O.C.

Never heard of them, and they've all got their socks hidden in that picture :mfr_lol:

I prefer Rugby myself, its a game played by men with odd shaped balls, (bet you haven't heard that one before [groan]), its also the game that is responsible for the fact that my back, knees shoulders and fingers are knackered, twas good fun at the time though  :mfr_lol:

OC, never heard of the Boston Red Sox?

No, come to think of it, neither have I. Any Yanks on here shed any light on the matter?

Ant

Well i've got some red socks and live near Boston  :whistling:

They have been going years, probably not long after the Pilgrim Fathers from Boston (UK) landed in America all those years ago, aptly naming the place BOSTON.
The Red Sox play in the World Series baseball as you can see, which, only seems to be in America and played by Americans

But you can see why with yanks like this:   :mfr_lol:

It's called the 'World' Series because it was originally sponsored by 'The Daily World' newspaper. It's not like the World Cup with teams competing from around the 'world'. It's the winners from the American League v. National League (a championship of champions if you like). Imagine the UK having two premier leagues with the winners playing each other at the end of the season...

How about now, anyone interested?

Lonewolf

Stephen did you take the photo of those two cheeky girls with the cricket bat?  :sweatdrop:

Yep definitely interested now! ..... when we did the route 66 trip earlier in the year we went to a cardinals game just to experience it and it was relatively cheap compared to football here. It took a while to get going, but we all got into it by the end due to the atmosphere more than the game itself really. Everything was good humoured, family orientated, and very civilised as you could get served beer and food at your seat! As a one off experience it was great. Think I'd like to go to a ice hockey game there though, that looks a lot of fun.

O.C.

I reckon that her in the white shorts is about to be on the receiving end of a good 'paddling'

BTW...does wearing Red socks have the same connotations as a woman wearing red shoes  ?  :mfr_lol:

I think it was the Red Sox who featured in one of those Discovery Channel programmes .... "Mega Structures" .. when they had a new stadium built some years ago ... it was simply incredible ... miles and miles of cables and 100ds of miles of pipes and water feeds and toilets and seats and concrete etc .. it was a huge project that just fitted together like an Airfix kit ! Ithink they had a good following for their cheerleaders too !!

The Red Sox home is Fenway Park and it's the oldest stadium in MLB, opening in 1912. It's had plenty of renovations over the years but it's fundamentally unchanged. Its actually one of the smallest ball parks but it's a legendary and historic park, THE most beloved parks in all of baseball because of its old school, magical feel. It's always sold out and so its also one of the most expensive. Hopefully I'll make my pilgrimage in 2015 for my grand USA tour.

Rusty

Ok .. maybe not The Red Sox ... but someone out there had a new stadium and it was fantastic ! :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :whistling: :whistling:
