currently got the zumo 550 always been happy with it , noticed that 2nd hand with the box and all accessories sell on ebay for about £330, the 660 version is about £400 or even less new. I fancy the idea of upgrading to the 660 , larger screen and flat.

any views on the 660, is it as good/ better/worse

I know some guys like the tomtom , but we all have garmins in our cars at home and we don't have any real gripes with the garmin

I had the 660 on the Gtr .. now with Asif ... and it was a great bit of kit. I went for it over the TT simply because I kept hearing that the G customer service was excellent and the TT customer service was the complete opposite. There may be others here with stories to tell but I would go for the Garmin 660. Around £440 or a bit less for brand spanking new I believe.
The BM Navigator IV Sat Nav ( which is on my shopping list ) is simply a 660 with a blue and white badge on it ... and my view is that if the Germans are going to put their name to it then it must be good. Get one.

Zumo 660 is an excellent bit of kit.

Garmin back up is first class too.

Four is fun.  Six is sex.

thanks guys.   I was intrigued that the used price of the 550 is so high in comparison to the new value of a 660, thought the prices were saying that the 550 was better.

im going to sell my 550 in December and upgrade to a 660 in jan and take advantage of the seasonal  pricing / ability to sell

O.C.

Used to swear by TT and still maintain that their customer service is outstanding, ...I used it once and they sent me a brand new recon unit F.O.C

However I've had a Garmin 660 for a couple of years now, and apart from having to initially adjust to the different operating system I now love it

I can recommend Garmin 660, I don't know how much extra you currently pay for the LM (Lifetime Maps) model

Lifetime map upgrade option is about £75. Struggled to download USA maps and had to buy a Garmin SD card in US :-( I've got some spare 660 screen protectors if anyone wants a (free) one for a stamp :-)

Lifetime Maps about £50 on Amazon.

I bought our NA map from  Garmin UK as a download (also available on DVD or SD).

I have only ever used Garmin.................

550/660.
660 has more features,biger screen
550 can be locked to its mounting, meaning you don't have to remove it every time your bike is out of sight
660 easily removed, take it with you at rest stops for altering routes etc in comfort drinking tea, rather than balanced on bike.

£330? £440????

Am I the only cheapskate with a £80 car satnav and a freezer bag to keep the rain off?  :mfr_lol:

Martin.

As I have the homing ability of a racing pigeon I will shortly be selling my 550. I wont be getting the 660 though - I dont use a sat nav enough to warrant the expense - 1 big Europe trip a year and 13k miles traversing the A303 doesnt justify.

I reckon the 500/550 hold their value due to their build quality - they are rugged and a half.

I'm with Tommy. I have a 5 year old Garmin Nuvi 205 that rarely gets used.
I use my phone with Google Maps more often than anything else.
Actually, most often I look up the route on my tablet and just memorise it.
One of my pet hates on the road is people paying more attention to or fiddling with their SatNav.
Why do so many people find it so hard to make DRIVING THE CAR/BIKE their #1 Priority?

I'm with Boomer on this one. I have an old TomTom Rider v1 which I use to locate specific hotels, etc. leaving me to enjoy the spontaneity of reading road signs and making a quick decision which way to go.... I've got a reasonably goo sense of direction however, now that I have stuck a compass on my dashboard, the worlds' my oyster (so to speak)!

O.C.

We don't and won't be touring on the same scale as we used to do, so don't need a Sat Nag as much these days, but my directional instincts are close to zero, so its a 'stand by' in case of need

My Sat Nag doesn't interfere with my riding or concentration, as its connected via Bluetooth/Starcom Digital to speakers within my helmet, so I'm not visually detracted by it in any way, at least none more so than looking at scenery
