I'e noticed some NEG riders on the forum and wonder if any are involved with the Tour of Britain cycle race ?

I normally attend a few stages and enjoy the experience of the event as you see very little racing.
Its a walk round having a nosey at some very expensive push bikes and a coffee and a cake !

Subject to work I'm trying to get to the Peebles and Lakes stages and possibly Stoke

I'm in the NEG but not at the level where the ToB would be an option.

For the last 3 years I've gone to watch the Stoke stage on the bike and been able to see the race 3 times as it was a circular route. Not possible this year though.

Good video
The stream of cars and bikes before the race shows what a big logistics problem it is running a rolling roadblock in the UK
When I've been to see the tour de France the French make it simple. They just close the roads
Nice and simple and no risk.
Last year I was stopped at the front on a roundabout and a van tried to get past on the grass despite the police bike in front of me

Fact of British life/mentality unfortunately.

Someone is inconvenienced for 20 minutes half an hour and their rights are being breached!

Even on closed road circuits we have farmers deliberately pull out ahead of the peleton or lead, because it's their right to.

Unfortunately we don't have the positive attitude to cycling the Continent has where it is embraced by the public and celebrated - even with world class / champions home-bred like Cavendish and Wiggins
Four is fun.  Six is sex.

I only partly agree with you Chris...I live in a stunning part of the world, and in a tiny village where we have to put up with all sorts of road closures and resulting inconvenience on what is becoming a far to regular occurence. :2guns:

I must sympathise with some farmers who simply have to get to livestock which cannot be left unattended, even for a peleton   :ohplease:

Riding back to devon last friday along the A303 i encountered a good 60 plus riders on "big" sports tourers with fluoro and official markings on heading eastbound. It clicked when I saw the local news that it was the Tour of Britain. I thought then that it would be great to see that many bikes on the whole 185 mile journey back. Sadly and especially on the journey back eastbound I rarely come across another bike. Doesnt anyone have a sense of adventure anymore.
