Found the website whilst surfing the net when looking for info on the GTR so now that I have had the bike for a few weeks decided I had better join in.

I am based in the north west and have a green 2011 GTR.

Have been riding for decades but this is the first bike that is more tourer than sports - may be a sense of maturity or it may be that my clapped out body cant bend anymore.

Had a test ride of an 08 the dealer had in stock before buying the bike so knew what to expect but was still surprised by the intersting handling of the 2011 bike on stock suspension settings but the bike did respond very well to some tweaks of the suspension so it can be hussled along in the twistys quite nicely now (probably do some more fine tuning when its fully run in) which is pretty much what the bike tests have said.

I knew the bike had a reputation for before thirsty but was surpriised how thirsty then I used the onboard computer to change to BST and found it was set to US gallons and not UK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can never think of a clever user name for forums

Hi and welcome Ian.

Whereabouts in the NW are you from? There's quite a few bikers here from the north.

Interestingly, the ZZR and GTR share the same display so you can interchange one with the other (yes, it even picks up TPS). Its the same part number in all countries so the locale does need to be set in the display menu for the MPG to be correct. I would expect the dealer to do that. Not quite the point you made but someone may find that info useful.

The handling on the GTR is brilliant. Quite a few times I've treated it as a 600cc sports bike and it's never complained. Tyres and suspension make a huge difference

Welcome Ian, glad to hear you're getting a handle on the bike... ;D
It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Lonewolf

Ian, welcome along, nice to have you on board. What can I say other than an excellent choice of two wheels, have you got any trips planned for later in the year?

pembsgtr

Welcome Ian, have you ordered that Corbin seat up yet?

Hans

Ian, welcome along!

MPG? Running your bike in the left lane.. I dont understand those silly brits!  ;D
We're well into 2011 - do change to metric, right line and start winning some
matches (football) again...

Hi Viv

Tried to order the corbin seat online yesterday but their website crashed when entering my details. Tried on the laptop at work and the desktop at home so definitely a problem there end will try again over the weekend if that fails I may have to actually use the phone and speak to a real person. You managed to decipher my change of user name then complete mix up on my part with name and password

Hi Norman
Got the bike from the Kawasaki dealer in Orrell (not much choice now Doug Hacking has bit the dust) which is 20mins up the M6 from me

Boomer

My 2007 does 42MPG (UK) and shows 44MPG(UK) on the Average screen.
I don't consider that too bad at all for a 1400cc 160Bhp, 100lbft, 650lb bike.
My Z1300 was lucky to get into the 20's and my GTR1000 ranged between 52MPG (a whole tankful at 60Mph, god I was BORED!) and 37MPG (320Km of Austrian twisties).
You should find that your MPG gets better as you break her in. You will also get used to the slightly snatchy throttle.

Welcome to GTR-ness.  :D 8)

Eccentrics the word old Boy, not stupid....& I suppose you Ride in Wooden Cloggs.... ;D

What do you mean start winning  football matches again....when did we ever win!
We should change to Metric. I Measure everything in Metric , but use Miles for Distance. It's  a Feck up really.
We do Drive on the Right...normally when pissed ! ;D

Welcome Ian ... this is a great forum with plenty of banter and chit chat so feel free to join in ! I too have Green/11 ... about 5 weeks old now with 1800 miles on it ( commuting to work ) ... trip meter says 46 mpg at the moment which is ok but I am sure that will drop soon when I start giving it some proper wellington, and now the sun is out ...werrrheyyyy ! The GTR is just a lovely bike and I am very pleased with my choice .. look forward to those warm days out.

fred24

Finished running the bike in now and am able to ride it like it should be and am very happy with my choice - allday rideability (well at least 4hrs anyway) and the grunt and flickability to release the days frustrations when roads permit

The test ride was back in January when it was +4 C and the roads where covered in crud so wasn't able to throw the bike around as much as I would have liked so was very pleased when I visited my favourite B road and was able to have a lot of fun on the bike, but the bars on the fuel gauge dissappear at an alarming rate when doing so.

Had done 50mls or so after filling up hen I hit the twisties and after 20mls in the twisties I was down to 1 bar luckily leaving the bike in OD with ECON selected does allow you to stretch out the fuel to get back to fill up again.

Ian aka Fred

Lonewolf

That seems poor fuel consumption, I usually get almost 200 miles out of a tank!

Rusty

Well why doesn't surprise me Mr Wolf ? You are truly unique !! ;D ;D ;D
