O.C.

It's a fact that there are total tossers out there who seem to want to try and emulate their racing heroes, unfortunately they lack the skills to do so and end up either looking like a complete tosser ~ or dead

We have had at least 6 deaths around this area in the last 12 mths
Must be the rise in numbers on the road due to good weather I suppose, plus as been said, riders just getting carried away and forgetting how fragile your mortality can be on a bike, especially over a certain speed.
Recently found out that a family member was involved in one of these fatal accidents, no fault of his own , rider going way to fast through heavy traffic, didn,t notice his right turn, slammed into truck at 60-70 miles an hour, threw him over vehicle and down the road, now, not good for rider of course, but the effect on on the truck driver was also devastating, believe me!
GAZZA.

Sadly these figures and statistics won't do us any good as a biking community and those who don't like bikers will be rubbing their hands and hoping for more anti bike legislation.
Nothing wrong with speed in the right places and with the right people but add the toxic mix of weekend riders, inexperience and cars out for a bimble to the local tea rooms and it all goes horribly wrong.
Just be careful out there boys and girls ... Whatever you are riding !

On a different note but linked to road safety, today 16th August, marks the introduction of an increase in the fine for mobile phone offences from £60 to £100 a throw plus the points and the introduction of two 'new' specific offences, one of tailgating and one of lane hogging. I'm not sure what the penalty is for the latter offences.
Its alarming how many people you still see using a mobile phone at every given opportunity. We hardly have any traffic cops these days at our place and of those who do still exist they are so few in numbers after the cull a few years ago that they do not get a chance to do any proactive work, they are simply chasing their tails each day dealing with collision enquiries.

O.C.

I heard all the reports about the new enforcements, and it also occurred to me that the overworked Traffic cops simply don't have the available time to deal with it all, the resulting paper trail must be horrendous.

In my opinion the use of mobiles whilst driving is still something that far too many drivers do on a daily basis and should be stamped out. Why oh why can't people get a handsfree or better still turn the   :censored: thing off whilst they are driving, nothing is that important that others lives are put at risk to chat or text on a mobile whilst driving  :gun_bandana:

Becuase people just don't realise or appreciate the risks or the consequences - its a simple as that  :gun_bandana: :gun_bandana:
There are only solutions

this is the hobby we have chosen  the majority of bikers realize that riding motorcycles is a dangerous past time and this is on their mind every minute there on the bike. recently, I can't seem to get that thought out of my mind  which I think is a good thing, it doesn't interfere with my riding or enjoyment, yet keeps me on the ball   over the last few years I've slowed down and change my style of riding quite a lot. the first thing I done, was to sell my 2012 zx6r although this bike was only a 600cc and no where as powerful as my ZZR or Versys it was like a missile and handle like it was on rails making theses middle weight super sports seem anything is possible, thus...  making you grow horns! although my ZZR1441 as double the B.H.P than the zx6r, the ZZR as slowed me down and I seem more relaxed and those horns don't appear  and no I don't think it's a age thing  most likely the fact that 2012 zx6r only weighed 185kg and could hit 60 m.p.h in 3 seconds and the standard 1/4 mile in 10 seconds with a top speed of 170 m.p.h together with excellent precise handling and the fact it red lines at 16,500 you need to keep the revs up to get the best out of the engine.. theses middle weights super sports can be lethal to even to the most experience of riders  I'm just happy that I've now grown out of them  take care out there.. I've seen a few of theses idiots on middle weights super sports going into bends to fast and over shooting their lane into yours :sweatdrop:
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

Almost 300 die on the roads every month, thousands are seriously injured, 40% of all involve a mobile phone

:agree: Driving down the M40 yesterday in Wife's car doing aeasonable legal speed when this woman in a black Golf came past doing some where near 100mph and as she came by I glanced across to catch a glimps of her chatting away on her hand held phone. Never mind points and a fine, bring back flogging  :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:
Better to be old and grey than the alternative!
