Anyoe know how much it would cost (just labour) to put in a new staircase? Ours needs doing and I'd like to know a ballpark figure to be aming for when getting quotes

NB, I can help you on this one. Are you talking the complete staircase, i.e. steps, hand rails, newel posts etc? I had a quote to do mine about two years ago and the guy wanted just under £1000 labour, £1900 for the total job. That didnt include the steps as they were ok, I just wanted the spindles, handrails and newel posts replacing. In the end I told the guy to take a walk and did it myself because he was suggestuing he was going to do a bit of a botched job.

I served an apprenticeship in Cabinet Making when I left school and although I had to buy a few basic tools and hire a compound mitre saw I still managed to do it for about £700 all in. I was very happy with the result too, more importantly so was the wife, every now and again you have to shock them dont you?

And now I am impressed with such skills, but more importantly such humour. ;D

It'll be new stairs and spindles only. I'm hopeless at DIY so would rather get someone it to it, but don't want to get conned

I make crude oil derived products such as petrol, diesel and kerosene, sadly unable to offer staff discounts
How old are you Pembs??
Do you remember "Tomorrows World"? The science & Technology program of yesteryear!!
I remember one of the old ones (late 80's early 90's I reckon) where someone was making gas/diesel engines run on water with the help of additive "X". Supposedly trialing with Foden trucks. Obviously never went anywhere due to additive "X" being a bringer of death or an Oil/energy company bought and shelved it!

I could really do with some of that right now £1.32 pfff, as could many others  ;D
