Chaps,
A quick question. Has any-one changed the Airfilter on an 09 GTR to a K&N or something similiar...is it easy to get to? what difference did you see (if any) on the bike? ;D
It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Yes, I have a k&n in mine. It's relatively ready to get to. Fairing off, remove the relays connected to the metal bracket. Undo the bracket (front only, no need to do rear as it's a pain to get to), and then undo the two bolts holding the filter in.

To be honest, I've not noticed a performance increase and will probably go back to the stock filter. My bike has flies out, pc v, and a remus exhaust.

I'm sure I've put pics of the air filter removal on before. I'll dig them out

Cheers.......pictures are always helpful ;D

I toyed with putting a K & N in my 2010 GTR. Local bike workshop seemed to think it wouldn't make a lot of difference and something to do with the ram air system and he'd tried them on other Kawasaki's and they had made no difference and if anything tended to get as dirty same as the OEM ones.

I fitted one 4000 miles ago and to be honest have not noticed any difference in performance or economy.

Possibly the only advantage then of fitting a K&N air filter is not an increase in power but the fact that you will probably never have to ever buy another filter, aren't they supposed to be good for something like a million miles and be guaranteed to out last the bike?

As promised, some pics:

These are the relays to remove. I think I removed the mounting bracket they were on as well and then just wriggled the filter out.

This is where the nut is that you don't want to open

Actually, was just looking at my motorbike album. Looks like every time I work on the GTR I take pics.

Whereas with me, everytime I work on the GTR I break something. ;D

cheers...... looks easy enough ;D

Joking apart, it is an easy enough bit of DIY maintenance to do it's just that it can be a tad awkward pulling the old filter out because of restricted access and space. Just be patient and go slow.

I'd agree. Mine will have the stock one in again soon.

I bought my GTR with 756m on the clock...i dont think the previous owner ever got it out of 2nd ...and the block feels very very tight indeed. I get the occasional stall, normally just after moving off in heavy traffic...you increase the revs slightly from idle to pull away, and as you roll off the revs dip below 1k and engine stalls. I am fairly certain this is because it has not been run in properly and everything is just tight...was toying with the idea that a higher flow air filter might help the engine at lower revs plus give me slightly better fuel economy. I have already adjusted the idle as this seemed low too

Mines done 35k and I get the occasional stall. That's because I need to adjust the idle. Current idles at 900 rpm. I think it should be 1200 rpm

I have had a K&N fitted for about 16,000 miles and have just cleaned it for the first time, it wasn't very dirty but once it was out I thought I may as well clean it. So it is all done and good for 20,000 miles. So how many Kawasaki filters would I have fitted in this time?

I think I can remember a slight improvment in low down power when it was first fitted.
