I have always used TomTom and wish I had stayed with them as their mapping is better and they are far easier to use.

However

I now have a Garmin 660, and soon off to Northern France for the WW2 sights.

My colleague at work always designs the routes using waypoints and a program called TYRE (try your route early) the same as the garmin one but easier to use.

So I install the files onto the Garmin which all loads up lovely.

Now, my colleague has a bit of a habit of going off route if he spots an interesting road and with the tomtom I could just go into the route and remove the waypoint that we pass to stop the gps keep trying to send you back to the missed waypoint. But I cant work out how to remove a waypoint from a route on the garmin

I have just used my 660 on the tour of Scotland  [ bike 8 from bike magazine ]

With the 660 you do not have to delete the waypoint. If you don't hit it, the 660 will just recalculate to the next waypoint using the route you have mapped.

Or at least my one does.

As Doebag says, the 660 will eventually realise you're not going to a waypoint but it will have several attempts to get you back to it.

To remove a waypoint from a route you are currently on, from the map screen hit menu, where to, page down, custom routes, current route, add or remove points, remove what you need to remove (or add extra points in), next, save and it will take you back to the map screen and recalculate the route. This is from memory so I may have missed or added a step.

It's not exactly intuitive is it but if there's a better way I haven't found it yet.

I'm old enough to know better but don't

Kevin's spot on with his step by step instructions and so is doebag, if you miss a waypoint, the 660 just ignores it.

O.C.

Or just disable the auto-recalculate fonction and your route will stay unchanged...you can go off your planned one, and you will still see where your original one was thus easy to get back on it.
