O.C.

Many moons ago I indicated on here that a  lighter bike would be more suitable for myself and Gill

So after much thought and shopping around I've ordered a Kawasaki Versys 1000 today

I'll have some bits to sell from my GTR once I've removed them, and they will be listed soon at a££ordable prices.

I still intend to 'haunt' this forum so ya haven't seen the back of me just yet (I can already hear the groans and applause from here)   :mfr_lol:

Is there something in the water up in The Lakes?  :mfr_lol: Sorry to hear you have decided to switch bikes, what's your plans with the GTR, trade in or sell privately? We know someone on here dont we who's looking for a replacement, pristine GTR, I've sent him a text.  :whistling:

Well there's plenty water up here Steve.   I've p/xed my GTR with MCO (Motorcycles Orrell) where I purchased it from, but it won't be there for about 10 days or so... it might be just right for Asif

I blame Geoff totally  :mfr_lol:  actually I've needed to change for a lighter machine for a number of reasons, it just makes sense, as I'm not going to be touring the Continent anymore but will be continuing to bash the 'B' roads and if we do plan a weekend away on the bike then the big Versys will handle that too.

Incidentally here's a couple of pics from last Sundays ride out, the White one is Geoffs new bike....lovely innit

And parked next to my GTR at Alston filling Station

how much lighter is the versy than the gtr, probably a route i will go down eventually  , last big euro tour i did was knackering with all the weight !

SirToU

And I was so looking forward to going out with another GTR rider.....  :-(

Versys 1000 is an ok bike!  :-)  not the flagship model of the GTR.... and as has been said ---- Chain Drive!

How long will it be?  Didn't you try a "Dual Sport"?

We will look on!  :-)

Good luck with the new bike.
If they are getting too heavy have you considered getting one with an extra wheel, never falls over

That was one of the major factors in my decision

The GTR curb Mass is 304 Kg (ABS) and the Versys is 239Kg, which means that the Versys is 65 Kg lighter than the GTR. that is just over 10 stones difference. obviously this makes a difference when riding the bike, but equally as important is the fact that the Versys is a whole lot easier to push around, its a bit like having a pillion on board and not having a pillion on board

Don't worry Neil I'll still let you ride out with me and I must say that the nVersys is a lot more than an "ok Bike" ...you should try one, you are right it isn't the Flagship model of the range, but I've had three GTRs now and it's necessary for me to get a lighter bike for a whole raft of reasons, and because I'm a Kawasaki fan through and through, I chose a Versys as it ticks all my needs boxes

Chain Drive ??? no problem Ive had bloody loads of bikes over the years with Chain Drive, in fact I've still got 4 others in't Rev Shed which are Chain Driven

Modern Chains are so much better than those of yesteryear, but you young 'uns probably wont remember those days  :mfr_lol:

Rog.. did consider the ltr versys when I was looking for a replacement for my zx6r ninja as my second bike  but decided on the 650 versys which is ideal for commuting fuel wise and pottering about on  I've always been "one extreme to the other" as far as owning bikes are concerned, suppose that's why the ZZR and the GTR didn't last long having both at the same time

p.s your right about modern chains  if you look after the chain, clean and oil or dry lube it every 600 miles or so they will last for 20,000 miles plus  and if you have still got the bike when that time comes, the chain and sprockets are cheap enough and easily replaced

Bloody "Ell Geoff ... what have you started ???  :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

Just seen one advertised at Dk Motorcycles, brand new in white with panniers £8999, a lot of bike for the money.
get a grip and deal with it

Winston Smith

Test rode one a while ago.  Was an OK bike, but not pretty from any angle IMO.

Hope you are happy with it though Roger, a capable machine and I can see your rationale.

Keep posting!!
