Checkout ebuyer for cheap navigo units. I've had them on my bike with DIY waterproofing and not had an issue yet.

I use a Techmount and haven't had any issues

How are you wiring up the comms as the cheap end don't seem to have bluetooth?

Kwikasfuki

I have an audio cable wired. Suits my purposes fine

I've just taken the plunge and bought a Garmin Zumo 550 for the bike. Anybody used one before? I've heard some good reviews on them from end users.
I used to have a Tom Tom Rider Version 1&2 and although the units themselves were ok the mount systems were their weak point especially with the 1st version of the Rider.
The Zumo is supposed to be a quality item so looking forward to testing it out.

At the moment I don't have a Sat Nav specifically for the bike ... A basic Tom Tom in A rank bag has done it for me so far but I fancy a Tom Tom Rider2 .. Perhaps the mounting weakness you talk of has been sorted !
A good friend of mine has a Garmin Zumo .. Sorry don't know the number .. We used it through France 2 years ago and I have yo say it was very good so yours should be excellent if it is a newer model . Keep us posted.

The mounts for the Tom Tom were plastic and the stresses placed upon it even during normal riding caused hairline cracks and then subsequent failure of the mount. Tom Tom were aware of the issue because of the same fault with their first version, the problem was that Tom Tom did not make the mounts themselves and because of the high demand couldn't get hold of the spare mounts fast enough.

So, is the answer to then buy a new TT2 and hope it has new stronger mount, buy an after market mount or just go for the Garmin ?
The Garmin, i have to say, is growing on me simply because i cant' find any bad reviews on it.

Guys, what's you're requirements when purchasing a sat nav? If it must be bluetooth, waterproof, non glare screen etc than by all means go for the expensive option.

Or do what i did and grab a cheap £50 one. Its been abused in all kinds of weather, dropped, neglected and its still working. The battery finally gave up, so I'll open it at some point and solder in a new one.

I have been using a Tom Tom Go 720 which is plugged into the ciggy lighter and then placed into the tank compartment. Its far from ideal but if you get lost at least you can check to see where you are or where you are going.

Touratech, http://www.touratech.com/shops/008/index.php?cPath=14_104_565 do a few decent mounts for the Rider and also mounts for the Zumo, http://www.touratech.com/shops/008/index.php?cPath=14_105_585 but I think the Zumo mount is pretty good anyway as standard.

At the end of the day any type of sat nav device is a bit of a luxury,
