This will work for any error display and yes you will have a red warning light, but everything else will be available.

Coincidentally my fob battery started to fail this week when I came out of work. No wanting at all, one day fine, the next day transponder battery low. Thankfully I had a couple of spare batteries at home, put one in and it resolved the issue straight away and the warning display cleared. I'd have been surprised if it hadn't.
