Bah.  What rotton luck.  Are you getting punctures from the same place that you ride through?  If this is a public road, isn't someone responsible for cleaning it / making sure it's free of hazards?

anyway,
QuoteIts also known as cupping and kinda 'feathers' the outer edges of the tread pattern leaving a lip on the tread cuts
My BT023 is doing this on the back.  Hence it's need for replacement. (which reminds, me they haven't calle me yet...)  Apart from looking terrible, is this particularly dangerous?

cheers
Ros

Boomer

No, not dangerous unless it is upsetting the grip/composure of the tyre.
You'll feel if it's dangerous.
Cupping is where the tread block is worn unevenly, feathering is where the worn off rubber fills the tread.
Feathering can be dangerous as you are effectively riding on slicks so wet grip is gone!
Now if a block has torn loose or there is cracking in the sidewall then NEW TYRE!

Right - thanks for that.

I'm replacing mine anyway due to the fact that it is as square as the tires on my car...

Yep, everyone else seems to hate them, but for me, and my kind of roads/riding they are better than anything else that I have tried so far.
I'm with the "old boy" on this  I found the standard bt021 tyres to give both excellent grip and feel, I did over 3,200 miles around the French/swiz alps and Italy with the standard bt021's and was surprised how good the feel was of the gtr for such a big and heavy bike, it just fell into the twisties and the hairpins bends of the alps with ease and I wasn't hanging around either  in fact, I replaced the rear with another standard bt021 at 4,000 miles with another bt021 because I can't fault them except maybe for wear, I replaced the front with a standard bt021 at 7,000 miles. I also had the standard bt014 tyres on my 2008 zzr1400 and did the same trip in 2010 I also found those tyres to give excellent feel and grip  the only problem with the bt014 on the zzr1400 "and to be honest.. it's not the tyres fault" was the zzr1400 went through rear tyres like they were going out of fashion. anyway Geoff.. I'm  that we actually have something in common  I too..  like the standard bridgestones tyres
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

Yes, amazing that we have actually agreed on something  but of course you have known for a long time that I am always right  :smartass:. It's the voice of experience you see!!!! :whistling:.            You are right about Ants tyres, they look like they have done lots of motorway/A road miles, my old tyres never look like that, they just look they have been tortured, and mangled out of shape. I do believe that Kawasaki are in a no win situation with the GTR, regarding their dealings with tyre manufacturers, and development of new tyres to suite certain different models. The original tyres fitted to the very first GTRs did get some bad press regarding some of the characteristics that they were showing, so Bridgestone set to work to improve them, and came up with the present one, which they gave a  " u " mark after the 021 on the tyre wall. And as I have said many times !!  for me !!!  they are  better than the Dunlop road Smarts, and lots better than the much loved by many on here PR3s. But in saying that I doubt if many people on here ride on the type of roads that I use.

Of course we are best of friends  :flowers: :001_icon16:              You're not going to tell us that you actually went up to the bridge last week are ya?    I thought that your good lady had told you that you had to clean the windows or do some ironing.        Anyway if memory serves we didn't leave the bridge until gone 11-30.          Oh and you missed a fantastic day swooping hither and thither   around the world famous ( coz Rog lives there) English lake district.  You really must try harder to join us. All for now my best mate,  from your (OLD) friend Geoff
