i have two bike's a gtr1400 which is almost a year old & a 2008 yammy xjr1300,i take pride in both bike's & try to keep them both in tip top condition,i got the gtr out today,1st time for about a week,to find the wheels had gone a whitish colour probably due to the GRITTER'S & all the brake disc's are showing sign's of rust,i love the bike, but on a 13.6k price tag the finish is crap.i want to ride it,not spend all my time cleaning it.NOT HAPPY TO SAY THE LEAST.rant over.

You aren't going to stop the rust on the rotors.  I do know the trick is to not clean them (near the hangers) and one of the reasons they do rust is due to the dealers cleaning the film coat of oil when prepping them.  Get some brake cleaner on them, it will sort the chance of the bobbins sticking and warping the rotors as a bonus, then a light rub over with some wire-wool.  Finish with a smear of oil or similar just to protect the bare metal.  Don't get on the rotor though.

If the wheels are that bad I would suggest a trip to dealers for photographs to send to K's warranty dept.  The paint should be deep enough to resist salt unless they are abrasively cleaned

And Tapps ... you need a garage with power and dehumidifiers ..

Blimey Tapps, I don't know a bike yet that won't suffer at the hands of road salt, I don't think its a fault of the GTR

Rinse it off when you've been out on the roads in this weather, the latest type of road salt'/grit is more sticky and therefore more aggressive if not removed  :nono:

Last year, I saw a 08 GTR that was in a terrible state from salt, paint pealing off all over the place

Well I consider myself to be  afair weather biker but I've actually used this bike a bit this winter seen as I bought it 31st october.

I never fail to rinse the bike off and wash it carefully after I've  been out on the salt laden roads. It seems to be fairing well upto now

I've put 1300 winter miles on so far, not a lot i know, but another couple of hundred are going on tomorrow- off up Kielder direction

Can't wait
We all know blue is the fastest!
