Managed to buy one second hand Remus exhaust (think it was £150 or £200). Makes a big different from the potato launcher. At least the bike has some soul now.

From a cold start its load and as the engine warms up you get a throaty sound. It's good, but next time I think I'll got for something louder

What is it about noisy exhausts?  I admit the standard can is big, heavy and, arguably, ugly but it comes free with the fuelling set up for it.  Why on earth would you fit a noisy aftermarket can on a touring bike.  Perhaps you bought the wrong bike if you reckon that it needs a noisy exhaust.  I haven't even changed the cans on my track-day bike.  It gives me a kick passing the race-canned sluggards on a comparitively quiet bike.  On the road, it saves drawing the unwanted attention of the police.  Well, it would if they hadn't all been replaced by speed cameras and VOSA cars.  Besides, why do I need an extra 3 bhp when I can improve my lap times much more by opening the throttle half a second earlier or braking 5 yards later.  Not to mention that the cost of two cans would pay for 6 more track-days.

Its not about bhp or street kudos. I remember as a kid hearing the engine of a 5.0 litre car. It sounded so smooth. The GTR sounds exactly the same. All the bikes I've ridden so far (v-twins) have that delicious rumble that to me, is the soul of the bike.

I just wanted something thing similar for the GTR and the way to get that is via the exhaust.

Last week I decided to pull the baffle on the remus. Best decision I've made. The bike sounds awesome.

it isnt all about the sound! Of course you want it to sound better at least people "doing make up" or "talking with the phone" can hear you coming quite bike or loud bike its or about the choice BUT what about the weight of the standart exhaust ? it weights well over 6kg any of aftermarket trasfer your bike in a different level of handling as the bike is so heavy on the exhaust way i droped it two times not left just RIGHT . the after market exhaust is well worth money it is only 2 kg  ;) AND also  gtr 1400 track days ? i though you say this is a touring bike ?

I never felt the weight of the stock exhaust to be honest. Also, when people say the bike is top heavy, I actually think its weighted perfectly.

With the Remus exhaust and baffler removed, yes it is a noisy (but not overly so), and it does warn other road users that there is a bike about.  I ride with ear plugs now so can't hear much of the exhaust anyway, but am leaving it as is
