Rear mudguard

Has anyone found an alternative to the pathetic narrow tapered rear mudguard that throws road muck all over the back of the bike, panniers and top box?  I am presently running with homemade side and bottom extensions but wouldn't mind fitting a proper alternative.

Would a hugger not alleviate that?

You may well have found one by now, but mudguard or hugger, try the website/manafacturer of " Mud Sling " I am pretty sure thats what they are called and they are meant to be very good quality ... around £100 but you get what you pay for. Good luck.
