My 2010 GTR will be due the 15K service in about 6 weeks. Contacted a Kawasaki dealer who has quoted £693 for the service. Just wondered if anyone else has had this done and how much was it.

Thanks

viper

sounds high but not surprising, what did you pay for your 7.5k service as the only differences i can see between this one and that one is , head bearings lubricate and brake fluid change. This service also includes plugs which means a tear down of the bike, but so did your 7.5k service

nightrider

the gtr that i have just aquired has had a 7500 service and i noticed that it had 4 new plugs costing £40   . i would have thought that they would not need doing again for 20000m . no wonder the costs add up . you want to do as much as you can yourself. oil changes and diff change should be easy .i would do the valves every 15000. these engines are bullet proof...................

viper

you are right about the plug change being a rip off , if your bike is out of warranty id tell them not to bother with the plugs, im sure you can get 30k miles out of them, maybe check the plug gaps, Platimum plugs could last even longer

Mattye,

That does sound steep for the 15k.

My 16,000 mile service (I work on 4k intervals rather than the book's 3,750) was £415.39, which included spark plugs, plus brake and clutch fluid bleed. This was from my local dealer, Bristol Kawasaki.

If you have not had brake pads replaced yet, perhaps prepare yourself for needing them too - around £140 for parts and fitting.

Martin.
65,000 miles now. Loving this bike.

once the bike is out of warranty i would do alot of work myself.Nightrider the valve clearence on a gtr is at 26000 miles.Plugs in mine where changed at 7500 miles and kawasaki recommend iridium plugs which are good for 20000 miles regular oil and dif oil will keep her running smooth

Thanks for all your replies as ever and to answer some of the questions:

I paid £420 for the 7.5K service which I didn't think was too bad as it included a Pair of PR3's. The dealer agreed not to change the plugs and was happy that it would not invalidate the warranty which runs out Sept 12 (Manufacturers Warranty) with a 12 month extended warranty which takes it to Sept 13.

Regarding brake pads I replaced them after 8700 miles.

I'm now considering taking my bike to a small one man garage and asking them to do the servicing until the extended warranty runs out. This should keep the servicing costs down a bit. I will ask that they use genuine Kawasaki parts which should then keep the warranty valid.

I might get a price from Bristol Kawasaki and see if there is any difference and let you all know.

After the warranty period runs out I can do the servicing myself apart from valve clearance and I will get the plugs changed every 20000 miles.

Crikey ... my bike is up for 16000 miles very soon .... that IS an expensive service ... perhaps it can wait a few weeks !

viper

just asked the dealer to quote me for my 7.5k service which came in at £450.  when i enquired about the spark plugs not being done the service manager said that the schedule gives 4 hours for spark plug change , so without that the price would drop to £180.

anyone who can or has done spark plugs knows that 4 hours is well OTT, i can get my plastics off and tank off in less than 30 mins, and i dont do it every day for a living

Viper, the quotes I got from two dealer said that the plug change is 7.5 hours labour so if they can do it in 4 hours that sounds a bit more realistic.
Surely Kawasaki give an amount of hours to change the plugs to the dealer so I wonder why one dealer is quoting 4 hours and another is quoting 7.5 hours for changing plugs. - Is this why there can be a difference in dealer servicing cost?

7.5 hours to change the plugs , i would want a engine swap for that , even at 4 hours  must be a bit like the gas board workers , 3.5 hours looking at it half hour doing it ... :mfr_lol:

At my 8k ish service the dealaer told me that due to my extended warranty they had to remove and check the plugs. This added ONE HOUR to the serrvice.

Forget the plugs, NGK iridium plugs are good for 60,000 miles in a Golf GTi so even if you do them at 40,000 you will be ok.

That prompted me to have a look at the receipts with my new GTR... and it had new Iridium plus at 7500 miles   ( 2k ago )
