Well had a nasty shock the other day. Put gtr in for 4000 service(only done 2600). Its an 11 plate. So get call from dealer, errr sorry you can't come and get your bike. Its got cracked front discs. So we will contact K and should get them to fix through warranty. Should???? I bloody hope so. Other probs i have had is gear display goes haywire, rear pre load stuck, cant budge it and silver paint on exhaust blistering. Its like if the primer is not dry and you paint something, it starts going flaky. I nlove the bike, but for its mileage, even though its used all year i think cracked discs are worrying.

Ah the phantom front disc problem that Kawasaki are some what reluctant to admit rears its head.....
the worrying thing here is that someone is gonna get hurt before Mr K fesses up and issues a recall.

This is deffo a warranty issue , Dood, make sure you get pads as well.
She is like the Bumblebee, she should not fly....... and yet she does!

Exactly the same as me, gear indicator switch rusty inside, disks and pads changed and stuck rear shock adjuster, just wait a while until the virbation in the handlebars kicks in, then try getting that sorted by Kawasaki.

Hi,

Can you fill in the details in this link so we can track it?

http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,1717.0.html

Not heard of a cracked disc before though. With all the issues around the brakes, its obvious the brake components can't handle the force exerted by the GTR.

Kawasaki, get yer fingers out of your ass and do a recall

Put it up now. Thats one week the bike has been in and no communication. Will call tomorrow and remind them that bike is my only transport.

I don't know what you guys do with your bikes and how you ride them but mine has now done 7500 miles, has been through the Alps and on some long trips. And I must say - it hasn't missed a beat yet. The brakes are fine, fuel consumption is good, no vibrations and I don't hang about either. But the beast weighs in at over 340kg and with me on top and fully loaded it may exceed half a ton. That is a lot of weight and nearly as much as some extreme sports cars. Only those have 4 wheels and bigger brakes.
If you brake late and hard all the time and only use the front brake I can see that something has to give eventually. It's a tourer and not a super sport after all!  :ohplease:
Maybe the new harder asbestos-free pads may also contribute but since we all know now that when abused the brake discs will overheat and fail eventually and sometimes quite rapidly - just adjust your riding style, put on some after market discs and/or pads or get rid of the GTR and buy a sports bike.  :whistling:
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

- strangely enough , the more mileage is put on the C14 , the more i tend to use the rear brake pedal. Ie , i leave it to the computer to get enough front brake into the mix to bring her speed down.

- that and i try to get my braking done before the corner.

Mecki, I am no super sport rider. I actually use the gears to slow down mostly, with a wee dab on the brakes just to let folk know i am slowing down. I can ride quickly but mostly stick to the limits and treat the bike with respect. I can see your point if i was trying to do stoppies etc. I know you were tongue in cheek, and appreciate the laugh it gave me.  But come on, 2600 miles, 600 or so running in. There is no way the discs should crack, exhaust cowlings start flaking paint, rear pre load adjuster seize and for the second time the gear display going wonky. I think i have had bad luck, either with a 'friday' bike or some freak of fate that i have the worst GTR  :mfr_lol:. I love the bike, but for being the flagship tourer it does not say much about component quality and endurance. Hoprfully i will get bike back this week as they are only waiting now on rear shock.

- have noticed that owners in the UK seem to have more problems , perhaps related to corrosion and harsh operating enviroment ?

- does it rain every blinkin' day over there ? And do they still salt the roads ?

Don't be daft Pistole, of course it doesn't rain every day here  :ohplease:...............it only rains every 'second' day  :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

Roads are salted only in winter................... which generally is between January and December  :mfr_lol:
