Good ideas, but don't you want to be careful about making a profit though, I mean from a tax perspective?  If there are 50 contributors, say, paying 12 a year (for example), you'll end up making money. Personally, I think you deserve it, but isn't there something about non-profit organisations etc?

I'll donate just because I think it's a great forum, and I enjoy interacting with you lunatics, but I'm probably too scared to make most of the modifications mentioned on here myself :mfr_lol:

Cheers

I think it's fair to say and the impression I get is that this forum was created for the benefit of all GTR owners wherever they may happen to be in the world. I think it would be wrong to section off the forum with different access levels for different folk, thats counter productive to the future of the forum. I can remember when I joined this forum while it was still in its 'infancy' so to speak and yet in what seems like a very short period of time it has grown to what we see today.

There are a consistent few who spend a lot of time on the forum, myself included according to the wife :whistling:  and if at this stage only those few choose to contribute financially towards the running of the forum then so be it.

 :agree:

With the amount of time you spend here and washing your bike I'm surprised your wife knows what you look like...

Profit? That'll be the day! I could probably offset it against the losses made for the past few years if there was any.

What LW says really.

There's quite a few good ideas in this thread. I'll start to implement a few of them.

Asif.. Have you thought any more about my idea of some sort of membership...

Im still up for making a donation every month of say 50p to £1..
More people who do this the better it will be for everyone.....

I dont think you should be solely responsible for funding this great site when it brings so much help to many of us..

Kwikasfuki

I have, but just not had a chance to do it yet. On my todo list

I'd pay quite happily.

Sort the link out and some will be yours.

I have to agree - was pointed in this direction by a fellow GTR owner (Sheriff) and am so pleased I tried it. you make it very welcoming.

Paddle faster, I think I hear banjo's...

Rusty

I think most people here would be happy to pay .. the UK Gs'er site is only £12 a year and that is a MINE of information on all sorts of stuff so no reason why we couldn't pay up ... what you say peeps ???

Lonewolf

Rusty me little Cockney chum, couldn't agree more.  :mfr_lol:
Not only is this forum a wealth of information but its provided some great opportunities for us all to meet up and have a good laugh together. If a 'membership fee' was introduced could the site in effect actually support itself? Most bike forums charge something, its just whats expected!

If only 50 of us pay it will only be 50p a month.. Now thats not going to break the bank.....

We could do it on a yearly membership and pay £6 each.. Then at the start of the next year, if its in credit then it could be lowered, or nothing to pay until the following year..

There will always be those who are to tight and want something for nothing.  :hammer:

Those who dont pay for membership should be limited to what they can see or post..

This site is worth its weight in gold....

Asif I've told you that before...now haven't I

As soon as you start to restrict access you will start to lose people and the site will become stagnant.
You are far better off having a yearly "whip-round" like they do on the Micapeak motorcycle email-lists.
That way if you enjoy it and can afford it, you pay, yet someone who is skint doesn't feel left out.
I have no problems with contributing but someone who gets on here once a month may not want to.

The problem with many of the "pay" sites is that they can become very elitist and "clubby".
Hopefully, this won't go that way.

:agree: on another forum that I frequent we have a donation system which helps with admin costs and enables forum users to chuck a couple of quid into the pot every now and then.

Those that have contributed get a 'donation' symbol added to their signature line, there's absolutely no animosity towards others that choose not to donate,  TBH they are few and far between.

That way costs are spread between forum users and access is maintained to all who register
