Ubertours

I had the same problem a few months back and just left it in for weeks. One day when farkling I got a pair of goose neck pliers and a bit of cloth to protect the knob then pulled firm and straight and out it came.I then lubricated the lock generously with spray grease and its been fine ever since.

O.C.

Graphite powder is best for lubricating locks, but not after using any oil based products as it will then form a goooey mess !

Graphite powder can be obtained through various sources, OR you can grind down some pencil "lead" which is actually graphite  :balloon:

How tight would you have to be before stealing the kids pencils and taking them apart for this haha. :mfr_lol:

Well shaggs....my kids are grown up, and so not draining my wallet too much these days.

However, I am a Yorkshireman   :whistling:

Does that answer your question  :mfr_lol:

Gonome

Not enough lead left in my pencil to lubricate anything :cheesy:
Better to be old and grey than the alternative!

Fixed .....
Exactly like Ubertours.   Fiddling about with a small pair of molegrips and protective rag on the key , bit of wiggling and firm pull and out came the key.
Close exam of the key showed the slightest of bends which I gently corrected and now it works fine.
So far.

Interesting point - riding around today when the "low transponder battery" message started flashing. Changed back to the original battery in the fob and all is now well.

Brilliant forum guys and thanks for all the hints and tips.

I only ever pulled the ignition key out once. I have a spare one for the panniers etc so have no need to pull out the key.

I too haven't taken the knob out for a long time, so I gave it a try the other day and was amazed how much force I had to apply to get it out. But out it came after a serious tug in the end.
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

I make sure that I pull mine out once a week or so, just to make sure it doesn't get stuck.  :innocent:
