went out yesterday, had a good ride out,on my return to whiteways lodge, top of bury hill, they had redone the road surface,i approached the warning sign's (loose chipping's & 20 mph speed limit) slowed down took the l/hand corner & i've never seen so many loose chippings on the roads suface, the sound of these bouncing off my new gtr realy peed me off to say the least,i decided to pull over as soon as i possibly could, put the HAZARD'S on & the numpty car driver's took no notice of the limit, flying stone's everywhere,as soon as i thought it was safe to do so i turned around & went another way,via arundel, why dont the attempt to clear up the majority of loose stone's,RATHER THAN RELY ON THE TRAFFIC TO DO IT FOR THEM.absolute mooron's.RANT OVER.

Unfortunately its what cash strapped councils do to make a quick repair.

I work for a Civil Engineering company and we are currently engaged in 'Patching' roads, which means planing out patches, sweeping clear and resurfacing with Tarmac, which is a better option than overlaying and covering the overlay with chippings which are. as you say, a fkn nightmare for bikers in particular

I assume that the correct warning signs were in place....if not contact your local council, and get them to sort it

yup..tis a bugger.... there have been many times when i have arrived at a fav bit of road only to find it's been 're-surfaced' ..... unfortunatley this usually means its a no go fer months  :hammer:
She is like the Bumblebee, she should not fly....... and yet she does!

The  surface dressing is put down as cheap of way restoring the grip levels for the road. Unfortunately its application usually means a lot of loose chips/stone lying around  although I thought there was a requirement for the road surface to be swept after it is first applied and then again a few days later to reduce the risks to traffic.

I would speak to the Highway Authority

Was driving a car from Dartford tunnel to the A12 yesterday and frankly I was aghast at the surface in places. Great strips of surface simply missing. An inch deep, three inches across and 15 feet long being typical. Just right for a tyre to drop into and then tramline. In other areas they had clearly tried repairing with tarmac inlay which had stripped out in great long lengths of rolling loose tarmac.

Cannot believe how dangerous it would be for bikes.

Just sometimes I think "Wouldn't it be great to offer the boss of the council, or highway agency, a lift for his daughter, wife or mum on the back of my bike to see if 2 up at 70 mph it is bad enough to bring us both off under the wheels of  a 16 wheeler juggernaut". Can't see too many taking up my offer....!

Roads are in a poor state of repair and its probably the same right across the country

You wouldn't believe some of the holes that we are repairing at the moment, we have to plane them out to 100mm to get near to the base of the pothole  !

Pot holes are bad enough, not only for the danger that they put us in but also the damage to bikes they do. The GTR seems to take them ok but my ZZR just thumps through them. teeth shattering.

But it's the long tramline versions that give me real concerns about coming off.

Nightmare.

Boomer

Yeah, some of those on the M25 between Thurrock and the A12 are nasty.
Some are 3-4 feet long, several inches wide and several inches deep.
I phoned the Highways Agency and complained about several of them near the A127 junction back in October last year.
Those got patched within a week, so it may be worth while complaining.
Call 0300 123 5000
If you can give precise locations of them they can get them fixed PDQ.

Come on then ... let's get the camera out and start " Who's got the biggest pot hole ? " ...............

Rusty

Come on then chaps... after Tapps' rant at the state of the roads, and quite rightly so , lets get the pictures in and take a look at the shitty state of the roads that we pay our taxes for and that we have to ride on ... lets see them ................

Went to Ashton-under-lyne near Manchester on Saturday, and there is no doubt they must hold the "Rotten roads record.  The roads in that area are just full of miner holes. We even saw some miners coming out of some of um. :ninja:
What would you rather be   or a wasp?

Rusty

Your'e going to have weeks more of this to come !!
