Hi all, after 10 years with Blackbirds, Honda couldn't supply me a decent replacement so i'm keeping my beloved Blackbird BUT have decided to move over to the dark side & the GTR 1400 is the only bike that ticks all my boxes... ordered it today!!  Blue in colour, but it looks black to me.
A quick question if anyone can answer, didn't order a Kawasaki top box as I've got  brand new Givi box,( & that is black in colour...) What's the procedure of fitting a Givi rack on the back? ie: does it just get a plate, or do you have to get a rack?
Looking forward to getting the bike, getting it ran in & taking it to Europe.
kind regards Stevie

Hi and welcome to the forum Stevie

Sure someone will be along to answer the question about the plate. Many members have opted for an after market rack.

Welcome!

As the standard k box is just a rebadged Givi box the plate should fit onto the standard rack.

Blue in colour......but looks black. Where have we heard that before Winston?  :mfr_lol:
Stevie, welcome along and congratulations on the GTR ownership. Did you test ride first or just buy from the box?
Whereabouts in Scotland are you based? There's a few members that far up north, I'm sure they'll make themselves known to you.

Sounds a familiar path - Blackbird for 10 years - Tick, Blue but looks black GTR - Tick!   :punk:

Welcome from the Lake District Stevie, I know that you will be very impressed with your new GTR (even though its not GREEN ) :mfr_lol:, and I'm sure that you will enjoy this forum which has lots of good advice available free of charge

Fitting a GIVI top box rack to your GTR is a bit 'fiddly' but qiuite manageable for most.. here's a couple of pictures of the one fitted to my GTR

Its a very sturdy rack and will accept all monokey boxes, model # SR 410 is the one I used

Hello Stevie .... welcome ... this is a great place to be .. plenty of laughs and fun !
I have a standard Kawasaki box on a standard plate and have had no problems at all ... daily commuting and a hoon through France .... but I am in the minority here !   :mfr_lol:

Thanks for the welcome guys!
I'm based in Glasgow, had a test drive on one in the Isle of Man a few weeks ago & loved it, was going to buy the one in the IOM (2011 pre-regi) but would have to re-register again on the mainland, so my fears were that it would be classed as an import & for the money i was saving it wasn't worth the hassle.
All info given appreciated & no doubt I'll have more questions as time goes on.

Keep tuned in Stevie ... there is plenty here to read !

The Givi rack is pig-ugly (sorry Coney & Mogs, but it is) and a PITA to fit.

Try this one http://www.philsfarkels.com/ available in the UK from
http://shop.heroblobs.co.uk/products/luggage-rack-for-kawasaki-gtr1400

The original rack is flimsy plastic and mostly useless.

I made my own quarter-inch ally plate and bolted my NonFango adapter plate to it.
It's still there 4 years & 40,000 miles later so I guess it's solid enough.

Which is why you chose the GIVI rack I spose

I must say though that even with the sturdy GIVI rack fitte the Maxia case does rattle when attached, and that's becasue the rubber cushions supplied by GIVI simply aren't 'tall' enough.. so I glued some tap washers on top of them which has helped solve the problem
