Has anyone installed rear/brake lights in the OEM topbox?

I found a US based company that sells clever lighting solutions to fit into Givi topboxes, and thus I believe also suitable for our OEM accessory topboxes - http://www.admorelighting.com/index.php?page=products/index.php&subpage=17 . Extra visibility would be good.

170USD + shipping for a neat LED solution that provides rear lights, brake lights, and if required turn signals into the corner sections of the topbox.

Has anyone tried these? Has anyone seen anything similar from a UK supplier? I cannot seem to find a UK based supplier, only high level brake light kits that won't work on our boxes as the normal Givi centre section is replaced with the Kawasaki logo.

How do you get the power supply into the box without having exposed wires running from the tail light up the side of the box?

Could be a quite simple DIY job if you can handle a soldering iron.
LEDs just poking through the case, could look pretty good if done right.
Electrics are simples ;) 2 contacts (one positive and one ground) built into the mounting plate and box.
What size topbox have you got?

If you look at the brake light only options that the UK distributors are selling (example here - http://www.ghostbikes.com/products/GhostBikes.com-Brands-Givi/2253-givi-e470-and-e450-topcase-brake-light-kit-(e94).html ) it looks like you drill and mount a two pin connector through the base of the topbox, then mount a corresponding connector in the topbox rack. Hey presto, you can remove and refit the topbox at will.

I am sure you will have to tap into the rear light feed though, with scotchloks I would expect.

I have the 47l Kawasaki accessory one, which I am led to believe is exactly the same as a standard Givi E470. Only the lid has changed, to replace the centre reflector with the Kawasaki logo.

I am tempted to give it a go, but would prefer to find a UK supplier that I could order from instead.

I'm gonna have a look at mine and maybe have a go.
If I do and it looks good(to be judged by the readers), I'll make a template/jig and I may offer an exchange service.
We'll see.

I wouldn't mind having this on the side panniers.

On the E450 its $140 shipped, which by my calculations:

$140 = £90

5% customs = £94.50

20% VAT (assume purchase is in 2011) = £111

Add in handling charge of £20 = £131

Not bad, but returns etc will be a bitch

Running lights and indicators. The GTR is poor at the rear for visibility (as are most bikes to be honest)

I did my own a few years back.

I don't know if you are allowed additional rear running lights in the EU.
Additional brake lights are allowed (required on new cars) as are some additional indicators.

My brake lights almost certainly are not "legal" as the lenses of the NonFango box are not EU approved.
They are extremely effective though.

I did this job on my last bike, a Bandit with a Givi box. Simple enough with a snap connector for when you remove the box.

Dunno about 'legal' probably just not 'type approved'
