Hit side on Pannier saves day again.

Got hit side ways last evening. Lad pulls out of car park space...I managed to stay upright missing op kerb , which if I had hit would have meant hitting Sea wall or going over it at Instowe.
I had a car pull out line of traffic few years ago on my FJR & like last night the Pannier took the brunt of impact & stoved wing in on car. Made real mess of lads car , all I got is scuff marks on Pannier & bent gear shifter.
Lad & his GF real upset...told them , not to worry shit happens , we all make mistakes , im not hurt. We can replace bike parts.
But she was in awful state crying...told her not to upset herself...wasnt the fact they had hit me, but he had just picked her up from town where she had just witnessed a child being run over by a car......not good day for her I guess. I haven't got hart to claim off him. He quite happy to pay me , rather than insurance as premiums such bitch for some one his age.

sometimes when people insist on paying privately it can mean they are not insured. But if it was a private carpark insurance may not pay out.

If he drags out your payment and then you decide to go the insurance route , your insurance company or his may not be happy that you never reported the incident. If you dont get a payment from him straight away id carefully consider your options .

Yep, mistakes do happen , and thankfully everyone is alright apart from his GF being very upset.

I reckon your action may have had the best effect on this lads driving skills, and in future he will be more careful

We all made stooopid mistakes as young inexperienced drivers .....didn't we ?

I am aware of that Viper...first thing I though was wonder if he is insured. But it was only after I got all his insurance details that he suggested paying me. Like lot young lads his premium is steep as it is & paying me would be lot cheaper for him in long run.
It was a parking bay on side of road.
