No Asif.

Love my GTR and it is perfect and sorted.

I've got the GS (or ordered it) ready for retirement later this year.  Keeping the GTR and going to run them alongside each other until I can decide whether I want to go Adventure route or stick with Touring bikes.

Got it for a brilliant price, know the full history and two owners and it is mint.

Once I have decided which way to go I will consolidate into one bike again either a new(er) Adventure/GS/Explorer or K1600GT - or stick with my GTR.

I don't like the 2010 GTR onwards - it is too 'round' and 'organic' looking, so I doubt I will be getting one of them when I decide.

As I said, I LOVE my '09 Blue GTR, the colour, the shape and everything about it, but I am starting to question it's longevity after your recent incident and other instances of failures at mileage/age.  I have an extended warranty until July 2013 so it is staying until then!

The GS will give me a different view of biking and maybe open up some new 'Adventures'!

As I may have said on here in the past - if I could only have one bike it would be the GS (well GSA in our case) or similar because of their go anywhere capability. I definitely struggled with the GSA vs. Ténéré vs. Explorer decision though. I eventually went for a GSA over the Ténéré after reading lots of reviews that said the GS handled better. The Triumph was eventually dismissed because I read quite a few adverse comments about the way Triumph handles warranty claims and having experience of the way the local Triumph dealer, Laguna Motorcycles, fobbed me off when I was trying to sort out GTR corrosion issues I decided I didn't want to take the risk. Only time will tell if I made the correct decision as I'm still unsure.

Variety is the spice of life.

As for my GTR being indicative of potential issues. I'd take that with a pinch of salt. There#s GTRs in the US that have covered over 100k without issues.

Sometime I think my bike was built on a Friday (as pembsgtr's wife/gf? pointed out!)

You're right Asif - I trust it absolutely, but it's 3 in July, 25k on it and it is used in all weathers and I have had about 4 warranty claims.

The GS/A was on my list when I bought the GTR.  As was the 1300GT and 1200RT.  Best deal (by default) was the GTR at the time and I have never regretted it.  I don;t change regularly, my Blackbird was over 10 years old when I sold it (from new) so I don't swap and change for no reason.

I will probably keep both for a while.

As I said - don't like the newer shape GTR (or the colours tbh) but I love mine and it's still in really good nick.

It'll do that alright

I'm not knocking the GS or the GSA, but it simply isn't the bike for me, and as you know I have had one.  :shit:

I still question this "go anywhere" sales pitch as the vast majority of GS riders never get off road with their machines, save for a kerb or two at the local supermarket

My GTR takes me everywher I want to go.

can't argue with that  talking about gs riders! there's a guy at work that has got one! quite like them really, but with me being a short arse  I doubt very much I would be upright for to long especially when I needed to stop  "if you know what I mean" anyway! this guy has the big aluminium steel look panniers, a few weeks ago I was on my way home from work in my car, when this guy on his G.S came round a bend "like the red indiana's where after him  "didn't think much of his riding either" he came round the bend "well" over the white line  anyway, back to the story! one of his pannier lids flew off missing my "new car" about a nats nudger, he didn't even know the lid had flew off. so I stopped and picked it up and took it to work the next day and passed it to one of the security gaurds to pass on the next time he's on shift. I don't know this guy to talk to and I've only seen him on the gs a few time's, I think he's been transferred from another area. anyway, if I do meet him, I'm going to be very pleasant in-deed, he's a big sod :mfr_lol:
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

Roger,  I have two mates who both use their GS/A's on less than smooth roads/tracks.  Even some minor roads and twisties are better for the GS than the GTR albeit mine goes there!

I will either love it or will get it out of my system!

There is quite a bit of difference between the full on GSA and the standard GS. The GSA is an inch or so taller in the seat, suspension is two or so higher and of course it has more kit and a much larger tank with loads more fuel sloshing about. The GSA was a no go for me when I tried it in the showroom, never ridden one but just too RTW for my use.

I have a standard 1150GS and it handles well, has reasonable mid range and cruises well in the 70-80mph range, abroad obviously!

There are lots of issues with new GS/GSA both quality of finish and transmission. Much like the GTR I suspect, you hear about the problems as people write about them, not so many comments from happy owners make them seem like an issue when the vast majority are quite happy and the bike is delivering what it was bought for.

For me there is too much cross over between the GS and GTR so I'll be selling my GS soon and getting something for looning about on.

O.C.

Admittedly the GS & GSA are great all round bikes, a close friend of mine is on his second GS and swears by it, I just swore at the one I had  :taz:

Years (many) ago I was into trials riding and was quite good, well I thought so, obviously I wanted to re-live my glory days and so about 3 years ago I bought this which was identical to the one I used to compete on, off road biking is sort of in my blood

I sold it when I realised that I couldn't/shouldn't try to do what I used to do many years ago , but not to be outdone I decided that I should buy this as it offered the chance for some Green Laning, which is what a few GS/GSA riders are involved in. the KDX200 being lighter and also a stroker made it good fun....in fact bloody good fun, and its a Kawasaki...don't let the fact that its 'only' a 200cc 1988 bike fool you, as if you haven't rideen one then ......well, just try it, and find out for yourself

The KDX (above) was soooooooo much fun that I decided to change it for something which would/could be even more fun....it wasn't....in fact it wasn't even funny, cos it spat me off a few times and once too often, on the last occasion I hurt myself (about a year ago) and was not able to ride any sort of bike for a good month while my bruises (and pride) healed....it could have been worse...actually it could have been much worse....but WTF were all little boys at heart really...aren't we ?

Here's the one that spat me off.....its gone now

The moral of the story for me is....its about time I grew up and stopped behaving like I did 30 years ago  :help:   :mfr_lol:

A KDX200??? It's gutless.
I raced a KTM250GS in the late 70s and that was way faster/scarier than the KDX.

If you want real "pucker-power" then take a spin on a CR500 or similar.
Those old 2-stroke 500cc MX-GP bikes were SCARY powerful.
80Bhp and 110kg. That's 720Bhp/ton or the same power/weight ratio as a 2012 ZZR1400.
Of course you couldn't use it as all it ever did was wheelie everywhere.
Damned hoot to ride once you got over soiling your pants!  :shit:  :mfr_lol:

What I actually said was that it was "fun" George not that it was a fire breathing KTM,  (note the KTM rear arm on the KDX if you haven't already done so)
