Heated Grips, which ones are best?

Apart from those lucky enough to currently own a new GTR with heated grips as standard which make do the rest of us have, if any?

I think mine are Hot Grips, but not Oxford. They are ok and I have to admit I've only used them twice this year but they only have two settings, HOT, which is so hot I can actually feel my hands burning through my gloves, perhaps I need thicker gloves to keep the heat out or MEDIUM which is ok providing the air temperature isnt too cold.  :-\

My last bike had Oxford heated grips on them and I'm sure from memory that they had about 4 or 5 settings. I see that the new GTR's have the same heated grips as standard as the Yamaha FJR's. Does anyone know, can these heated grips be purchased as an accessory, or are they only fitted to new bikes.

I am one of those lucky standard fit fellas, and I would say the stepless variance controlled grips are superb. It has been -6 a couple of times recently when setting off, and I have still not needed them on maximum.

I have not seen them offered as an accessory package anywhere, but I am sure that the grips themselves and the controller would be available to purchase from the parts department. The only thing to be slightly wary of is the standard 2010 model grips have some monitor on battery voltage, and switches the grips off if the voltage is too low. I don't know where that 'intelligence' is, or whether it woiuld mean a retrofit is tricky - sorry.

65,000 miles now. Loving this bike.

oxford are hit and miss. some have been hot, others youll get more joy by rubbing your hands together

looks like you can buy them individually. controller is 70 quid and grip 90 dunno if thats for a pair. i bet they are oxford ones anyhow

It looks like that price might be each side. But a very good find nevertheless.

I've had a closer look at mine, they seem to be called Daytona Hot Grips.

Mine are the Daytona Hot Grips and I wouldn't change them for any other. They get HOT

I've realised that the grips on the Daytona are wearing out. Do I risk trying a new brand or get the Daytona again

NB, I'd go for the Oxford heated grips. I think from memory they have about four or five outut settings. Thats one negative side to the Daytona ones which are either luke warm or full nuke power. :o

I had some Oxfords on my Busa and when the controller when tits up I went to Hein Gericke and they gave me a new one FOC. Good service.

Hein Gericke ones - the old style with "Off, Start, and On". They get seriously hot

They are the ones I have. If mine ever pack up and sometimes I wish they would I'll change them for the Oxford grips. I find with my current ones that on the low setting you cannot feel any heat and on the hot setting they actually start to burn my skin. But then I  do have delicate skin having washed up in Mild Green Fairy Liqued for the last 47 years.  ;D

I have the Oxfords on my GTR1000. They are about 10 years old and all I've had to replace is the right grip which split after 8 years.
They quoted me £50 for one replacement grip, so I waited until the next motorcycle show and bought an entire set for £40. <LOL>
I only used the right grip from it and somewhere in my garage I have the controller and the left grip.

My controller is infinitely variable with a knob. Looks like this.

The newer set came with a stepped push button controller that I'm not keen on.

You do need to be very careful how you route the cables to the throttle grip as it can snag stuff.

You can of course upgrade to a 2011 model and get heated grips as standard  ;D ;D ;D
They work very well and the control is nicely integrated in the fairing.
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

That's a bit more expensive than the Oxford grips.  :)
It also gives the linked brakes and traction control which I am personally not keen on.
