 :P Doh!! ::)

Apparantly if you want to hear louder audio......you have to turn the volume up!!

Now hang on a second before you start having a go at me. I spoke to a guy called Paul at Autocom this morning and even he didnt know how to fix the lack of sound, he put me onto Alan another employee at Autocom who knows more about the camera system than Paul and even Alan couldn't come up with an answer other than you need to turn the volume up, but regrettably he didnt know how to do it. ;D

Eventually Alan called me back and told me what to do but you get no visual representation on the monitor that you are turning up the volume for example as you would with a television, etc, i.e. a scroll bar or similiar on the screen.

The matter is now thankfully sorted, I suggested that they add something to the instructions to explain this problem which they said they would.

Paul at Autocom did suggest that I wire the negative cable from the Autocom direct to the battery which I have done. This significantly reduces the possibility of any electrical interference apparantly.

I've got to say it may have taken me a while to get it all sorted but I have enjoyed tinkering with the bike, taking things off, seeing where everything goes etc. On top of that I think it is quite a tidy installation of the Autocom considering the lack of space available under the seat of the GTR.

Glad to hear you got it sorted. I'll have to take a look at your Autocom and see if its something I want on my bike.

Couldn't have done it without my new found knowledge on bike mecahnics ;D

I'm going to find somewhere suitable now on the rear of the bike where I can put the Go Pro.

I've been experimenting this afternoon with some video tricks etc. I have discovered that I can use the audio overlay from one camera, i.e. the front one which will be wired to the autocom and drop that audio onto footage from the rear camera which is a stand alone system, i.e. not hooked upto anything.

By doing this I can create commentary using the new front camera and then transfer this into footage showing rear views, overtakes etc. If I didnt do this, everytime I showed rear footage there would be deathly silence followed by speach again when I reverted back to the front camera. This way, in theory it should be a smooth transition from camera to camera with audio to match. (In theory) ;D

lonewolf what model did you get? we're planning on a euro tour this year and it wud be udeful as my mates are all on autocom. like the idea that you can record and annotate as you ride. what the capacity of the storage on the video recorder and at waht resolution

The autocom I bought was a SuperPro Automatic. It comes with everything you need for rider and pillion which will save you buying a lesser model and then buying the required accessories separately. There's not much you cant hook up to it.

As far as the camera is concerned the Bike Cam 2 will record at 480 which is fine because ultimately its the quality of the lens which will determine the quality of the footage. The unit will support upto a 32gb SD card and the book states approximately 880 minutes at 480 resolution.

I also have a HD GoPro which will record at 1080 in HD and the clarity of that has to be seen to be believed. That will also support a 32GB card.

The installation continues..

This was how I intended to place the system, but due to being unable to resolve an annoying issue I have had to switch things around. Because I had the Autocom on top of the ECU I could hear a very faint buzz from one of the speakers which is a definate no, no. The sound should be completely clean. I tried doing what Autocom suggested, which was to wire the negative direct to the battery where it would get a better earth but that made no significant difference. I even tried introducing an insulator, some high density foam which again Autocom suggested but it didnt clear the interference, although there was a very slight improvement.

So what I have done is reconnected both power leads to the rear accessory connectors, and then switched the Autocom around with the camera recorder. The Autocom now sits on the KIPASS ECU and the camera gubbins on the main ECU.

Two benefits I have found so far with this. Firstly the seat fits better due to the underside shape of the seat directly over the top of the Autocom, almost made to measure and there is no background interference now whatsoever.

This is the finished product, at last!!

I've swapped the units round from the previous post above.

All concealed nicely under the seat.

Definately the best way to fit this particular Autocom system due to its size. The seat fits fine now as well.

Excellent job, and thanks for sharing. You can get a surprising amount under the seat by the looks of it. I've only had the seat off once, briefly, and thought there was no room for anything at all.

Martin.
65,000 miles now. Loving this bike.

Lonewolf

Martin, trust me it was a pain to do in one respect, but on the other hand at this time of the year when you cannot always get out to ride as often as you would like I do like to have a tinker with the bike. In a strangely bizarre way its even therapeutic and its nice to know how to do some basic maintenance on the GTR.  ;D

The final phase of the autocom and bike cam fitting was to mount the camera and record switch.

Quite discreet from a distance....

Just dusted off my Autocom Active 7 smart , served me well on the last FJR ...just not the best electrical knowledge in the world. Tell me please have I got this right. The Red lead from my Autocom goes into the Black/grey live accessory or is it Black into Black yellow neg...?

Sure on FJR it was Red to Red etc...had to put live onto brake light live wire above brake pedal as any where else used to result in interference....

Thanks Alan

Lonewolf

I made myself a note when I wired mine up just to jog my memory in the future.
From the Autocom you have a red = positive.
From the Autocom you have a red & black = negative.

The GTR's black & yellow lead is negative and the GTR's black is positive.

So it would be Autocom red to GTR's black.

I certainly aint no electrician, but thats how I've done mine and it works fine.

Just nice to make double sure..Did send the Shematic Diagram from the Workshop Adobe Manual to my youngest who is a Uni in Southampton doing electronics & engineering....Good lad , gave me real insight into understanding the Diagrams.

Thanks once more Alan

Ziderman

Well checked as much as I can , but seems there is no power going to my accessory leads. Checked fuse etc , all ok . The front fag lighter works & think there all on the same wiring. Bit of a mystery. Any clues any one ?
