Has anyone else experienced slackness in their box?  ;D

Glove box.... ::)

I have a 2008 model GTR which has the glove box on the tank & which can be opened for various nic nacs etc. What I've found recently is that the box lifts from the tank ever so slightly when I've been out on the bike for a long time and heat from the engine warms up the plastic glove box. The downside to this is that the rubber seal occasionally comes off the lip on the top section of the lid on one side.

I've been looking at ways to fix this and I recently saw the below photograph on this forum and thought, hey up, thats a different design bar to what I have on mine. This is off a 2010 model.

This is a photograph of the bar from my GTR which I took today.

So on the pre 2010 model bikes this bar does not have the two additional fixing points, the rear most bolts circled in red.

Currently on my model the top portion of the glove box secures to the bottom section of the glove box by two self tappers as in the picture below where you can see the vacant holes.

The down side of this method is that clearly the two fixing points become worn and then lose their ability to grip sifficiently.

I have made enquiries today with my local Kawasaki dealership and it seems both bars, pre & post 2010 have the same part number but are of a different design. The bars are £50+ each. (Yeah that shocked me as well).  :o

What I intend to do is is have a plate made which will secure to my current bar and then when the self tappers are used it will pull down and grip all the components together in a better fashion that they currently do. Alternatively if I can get my hands on a cheap 2010 bar I'll try that.

Has anyone ever tried this, can anyone forsee any problems with my cunning plan before I start tinkering?

Any feedback very gratefully received.

Wouldn't a larger diameter self tapper do the same thing?

Mt '08 model has the same problem

Yep it would as a short term fix and I'll probably do that in the first instance but I was hoping to find a more permanant solution as well.
